I've never been big before. I moved from Oregon to Indiana just before the pandemic really took off because my family is here. When the lockdown happened I was stuck...and staying with my parents. My dad believes corn is the only vegetable worth eating and everything should be deep fried. I gained and gained..and gained. 75 pounds to be exact. my joints started hurting and I couldn't lift one shoulder and then was diagnosed with pre diabetes...well, I have since bought a house and do not eat with my father anymore and I have started cutting out fructose and white granulated sugar. I did manage to reverse the pre diabetes, but to be honest I have become afraid of food. I find myself counting every single calorie, but I lose track of carbs. I just can't seem to find a good rhythm with all of this. I was so pumped and ready to get my life back, but I'm 48 now and have no idea what I'm doing. I'm using Google to try to fix myself. I won't talk much on here, but I appreciate that a couple people may read this :) and it is really nice to see your pictures and great of your victories and struggles, so thank you.

I was there, I became afraid of food. I’m starting to eat healthier thanks to the support I receive here on FS. Good luck, it’ll get better and even fun.

You can do it. It really is trial and error. You’ll find your way, just don’t give up.

You can try writing down what you plan to eat the next day on the night before. Sometimes the conscious effort helps you think through what you want to do. It’s not perfect, but it has helped me instead of mindless eating.

Just know this is a journey...It is not a race. I am 53 now and it has been a 13 year journey for me to wrape my head around eating healthy...staying away from sugar and stop drinking pop all together. I have also tried to be GF as much as possible. However, I was told not to be so hard on myself and give myself a break now and again. So I pass the same advice on to you...May you enjoy the journey.

I've found it helpful to really limit refined sugar and starches while amping up on protein and fiber. I eat a lot of beans (legumes), lean meats and oodles of fish. I supplement that with loads of fresh vegetables and fruit (mostly berries). From a macros standpoint, this looks like 50% carbs, 30% protein, and 20% fat. The carbs all come from the vegs, fruit and beans, very little from potato, rice, pasta and breads. Most fat is from evoo for sauteeing vegetables. I eat very little hard cheese but a fair amount of 2% cottage cheese. I've lost 154 lbs in less than a year. You can find a way of eating that works for you.
