When I lived in AZ., I had chickens and one rooster. Something, maybe a black-bear, or a chicken-hawk, murdered my rooster while they were all down for the night. IDK what happened, but something w/a sharp claw reached in & disemboweled him. It was sO sad. My chickees would luv to run about all morning, & noon and went back into their cage everyday @dusk. I used to bake alot when I was fostering my ex's 4 nephews/nieces. I made them oatmeal/raisin or dry cranberry/pecan or walnut cookies and Peanut Butter cookies. We also had homemade crepes/waffles/pancakes alot. Banana nut/pumpkin nut/breads. Apple/Lemon Meringue/pecan pies and a variety of cheesecakes. I miss my chickees. They're so cute when they are just peeps. :)

I hear that! Our girls have been keeping us in a healthy supply of fresh eggs. They are soooo much better tasting and healthier than store-bought. Enjoy those cackleberries!!

Hey JackieBlue! I want to get chickens! How many should I get to have around 6 eggs a day? There are so many beautiful breeds. Any you would recommend? I'm in Colorado, USA

@Liz get 8 hens. Some days you'll have extras, and 2 months in winter when daylight is shortest they will stop and molt but you can keep eggs in the fridge all winter so extra hens are always good for stocking up.
