Tonya Palmer's Journal, 23 February 2014

Sorry I have been away but it has been a most trying week. I'm a daschund lover and have two. One is 13 and one is 3. Wednesday was a beautiful day. We were actually 80 degrees and a bright sunny afternoon. We had our girls out front along with some neighbors and their dogs and they were all playing. A stupid neighbors down the street was walking his put bull with no leash when my 13 years doxie barked the put ran into our yard and grabbed her up. It took 5 adults to get her off. My neighbors finally took both feet and stood on the put before he turned loose. She spent one night in ICU and has 25 staples. She was very lucky in the fact that all bites were skin years. No muscle tears or broken bones. Her left side is very sore and she cannot walk but she is on meds for pain and an antibiotic. The idiots that own the dog had the nerve to tell me they don't have any money or a job so I will be seeing them in court. We live in the county and here there is no leash law. We live in a mobile home community where most own their home but these people are in a rental which the park owner owns. There are suppose to be no Pitts here. Be it the couple or be it the park owner one of them will pay.

That is horrible. And, not to single out pit bulls, because no one should have any kind of a potentially dangerous dog out uncontrolled. Hope your little girl heals quickly!

Even here in the country the county has a leash law. I'm glad it wasn't worse. Hope she'll get better soon.

Oh, how scary for you! Why oh why do people insist on walking their dogs around without leashes? I went for a walk with my dogs yesterday and only half the dogs were on leashes. At least one couple put the leash on when they saw me coming. Seriously people. I know I feel better that I could attempt to control my dogs if a ruckus were to occur. My family and I lost our beloved Collie when I was a kid. We were renting the upstairs of our big Victorian home and there was a separate back entrance staircase for them. For better airflow, we had our kitchen door open, which looked out on their staircase. They had a HUGE short-haired St. Bernard and as they walked him up the stairs, he charged into our kitchen. My mom said that our Collie was rallying to protect my two younger siblings and their friend, so he growled at the St. Bernard. The St. Bernard grabbed him by the throat and that was all they wrote. I got home from school to a trail of blood all the way through the house and the news that not only didn't he make it, but the vet wouldn't release his body back to us because he bit the vet before he passed. I'll never forget it.
