chryssm's Journal, 11 February 2014

Well I had this recipe for low carb meatloaf using pork rinds instead of bread crumbs ... someone at work gave me it ... and I just went to 3 stores and none had pork rinds . So I don't know what dinner will be now. Anybody got another idea for the meatloaf . The kids think we are having meatloaf. I guess I could make regular for them and just make me a burger.

I got the ketone test strips and it was totally negative. Maybe I am impatient. How many days of induction days it take ? I am on day 3. Guess I will give it a few more days.

I did get a good workout in today so that's s plus.

I guess I am just alittle frustrated. Last week I only lost a pound and I really need to see a loss this week.

Hey Chryssm, Don't get discouraged. I did Atkins years ago and it took me a week and a half before ketosis. Stick with it, if that is your preferred meal intake. I lost 40 pounds with it. Unfortunately, I had my gall bladder removed so I had to explore different mechanisms. For the meatloaf, you do not need much bread crumbs for the whole meatloaf. At most I use 1/2 cup, but often now, I don't use any. I just cook it and add Lipton Onion Soup mix, 1 egg per pound of ground chuck, and assorted worstchesire (sp?) sauce and other seasonings. Keep it up and don't let the test strips get you down. Be consistent and patient. :-)

Thanks ... I have been doing regular low carb , and staying under 1400 calories a day ... I dont really know why I got it in my head that I should do atkins induction. It is so strict , staying under 20 net carbs has me limiting my vegetables because before I would go over 20 just in veggies alone. I am going to keep trying and finish out this week , but I might have to just go back to my other plan. It was working , I didnt realize how restrictive this was going to be. I feel like this could put me over the edge and I refuse to give up.

And actually ... now that you said that it made me think ... I had my gallbladder removed as well. Maybe thats why this isnt working because I know I cant handle the fats ... I felt great doing regular low carb and low calorie ... this week I dont feel good at all !

You don't need bread crumbs or pork rinds. mix the meat loaf with onions and ketchup and egg. the egg will firm it up for you. I do this all the time.

I love this site. You spend a little time, throw out what's happening, and people pitch in and give you ideas. Didn't know about the gallbladder deal. I think you can hit ketosis by coming from the other direction as well. Pare down the carbs slowly until you see it, and then start adding carbs slowly to find your threshold carb intake... if I'm not mistaken. Ketosis is simply a result of your body burning fat.

I'm in CT, where pork rinds are relatively unpopular. Finally found them on a Frito Lay strip at CVS. Don't worry too much about urine test strips. Unless you're testing blood, it's unreliable. For veggies, don't count fiber (you can edit the columns on Fat Secret to break 'carbs' down into 'fiber' and 'net carbs'), and you'll be able to fit a bunch more in. Compare notes with other um.. former gall bladder owners. I've run into some who swear by LCHF, and some who can't do it at all. A personal friend of mine had his removed, and said other organs took over the most important functions after a time. Even with a working gall bladder, you'd feel like absolute crap the first week at 20g, I sure did, but it got better. Constant hydration (one day it was 1 glass every hour with an alarm set, peeing all the time), and replacing electrolytes, salt, potassium, magnesium, calcium helped a bunch. If you really can't up the fat, though, it won't be fun. High protein with low fat is a ticket to kidney stone city.

Thanks for all the comments everyone ... my crisis is over ... We had the meatloaf for dinner ... It was good , flavor was about the same as any meatloaf , just alot less dense and kinda fell apart as I cut it . But it tasted good and the kids all ate it so its a win in my book. Its hard some days to make meals we can all eat together. Trial and error , day by day ...
