Down another pound to 208. Whaaat? I am really surprised but that's the majic of ketosis. It has curbed my appetite and I am eating just under 1200. I am now supplementing with multivitamins to ensure I get my vitamins in as well. I also continue to supplement with cal mag. I am also taking a high potency vitamin C blend to build my immune system and help me quash this recent bug. I am still getting over that oh so nasty head cold. Breathing better today and feeling more energetic. I can feel the Spring thaw around the corner although it is ridiculous cold today brrrrrr -22. Stay warm all!

Sharon: Indeed - I can't believe how surprisingly fast this has happened especially after a weight loss drought the entire month of January. I guess it means that I was not in Ketosis during January because once the steak and eggs diet got me there, I stayed there and it's working. I am more happy about the discoveries I am making than about the weight loss (don't get me wrong, I am very happy about the weight loss but I am learning about my body and all the things that will help me maintain my goal weight once I get there). Thanks for the book tips .. I love reading and I have a list that I will add your suggestion to. I just purchased a book called Bring Home the Dharma which is about mindfulness (not diet related). I haven't started it yet but it's on my list of books that I want to read. Thanks for your support :)

Tulip: I thought it was impossible too. If you look at my food dairy you will see that I was eating well above 1200 since I started in October - yet I was able to lose over 15 lbs. Then I overate at Christmas and just never seemed to be able to get back to losing. Then I tried two experiments .. the first one was cutting back on my cream and oils by measuring - I didn't see any significant change from this. The second one was the steak and egg routine for a week (it was tough ... I could hardly cope). The steak and eggs routine kicked me into ketosis and by the end of the week, my caloric intake was reduced as well as my weight. I discovered my ratios (fat/protein/carbs) and that I needed less calories to lose weight. I was aiming initially for 1440 but ended up at 1200. It was an evolution but here I am eating half the calories I started out with and losing weight and not feeling hungry. It is the magic of ketosis. I am drinking a lot of water to wash those ketones and toxins out of my system :)

Crazybusy: Ketosis using "Diet Doctor's" definition is a state at which the body has an extremely high fat-burning rate. Even the brain runs on fat, via ketone bodies. These are energy molecules in the blood (like blood sugar) which become fuel for our brains after being converted from fat by the liver. Not everyone prescribes to this way of eating - but it is working for me and oh so many others.

I was looking at your food diary . .. you ate ONLY steak and eggs that week? and now you don't eat ANY any carbs at all? just the tiny amount in your cole slaw???? there's a serious atkins girl on here MJ and she introduced me to the idea but it seems impossible to do unless for a short time . .. so did the eggs and steak kick you into ketosis and once that happens you stay in it with the high fat????

Ginger: I am on a lowcarb diet. Initially I started with Atkins but started mixing it up with other low carb approaches such as the low carb high fat approach prescribed by diet doctor, added a little paleoish approach and just started experimenting myself to see what works best for me. At the end of the day, it is still under the low carb umbrella (no refined/white products such as flour, sugar and I only eat low carb veggies with my meat/fish/eggs).

Hey Tulip: Yes, I ate steak and eggs ... one or two times I had baby dills which are very low carb (it was more for my sanity since I found one week of steak and eggs really difficult). Once I did the week (I couldn't do more, it was too hard), I was kicked into serious ketosis without knowing it. Then I went back to adding my veggies in (I am a coleslaw addict so it is a great marriage). I won't only eat coleslaw for carbs. Yesterday I had some raspberries as well. I also will add a squash (choyote) that I bought from the supermarket. I will add other low carb veggies as I feel but I am loving coleslaw and it's low carb so I will continue eating it.

it's super interesting! i won't even ask about the fat bombs! does the green tea help you lose? i use green tea . . . you're doing so great! and inspiring so many of us!

The fatbombs can be dangerous .... I have to keep myself to two because they are an emotional food item for me (I love candy so ... this is my low carb candy). I don't have green tea but I have peppermint herbal tea more than once a day usually. I also enjoy a warm cup of unsweetened vanilla almond milk - my newest discovery (I find it rich and satisfying).

Thank you Jenn, for your response! I too discovered the unsweetened vanilla almond milk, about a year ago! Don't you love it?! I think it tastes like a watered down milkshake!! :)

Yes that almond milk is my best discovery.... yum.

Jenn how many carbs do you do a day?
11 Feb 14 by member: knslovinggod
Currently just under 1200 and not hungry!! If someone would have told me that was possible inwould have said no waaay. But it is and I am enjoying the benefits of ketosis while it lasts. I am going to experiment with raising my carbs in a week or two to see how my body responds. It should be interesting.

Jenn what do you mix with your coleslaw? How long have you been low carb? do you eat fruit now? I am going to got get myself tested to see if I have any food allergies. Things aren't working out for me and I am getting down in the dumps!!! Have a wonderful night!!!

Sharon my coleslaw may be considered boring ... I add 2/3 to 1 tblsp of MCT coconut salad oil to it. I love being able to taste the veggies and just enough oil to lightly coat. I have been on low carb since the end of October 2013. I have not deviated at all but it has been hard. It was especially terrible during January when I didnt lòse and ended the month with no loss. I decided to experiment to see what would work. Cutting cream and fat didnt help but I discovered I was over portioning. I started measuring all my food and still do. Ultimately it was ketosis that worked and steak n eggs got me there. I do not have much fruit but when I do its berries only. I do everything to stay true to lowcarb highfat but it is not easy. I had to find ways to make it work eg fatbombs, fish, trying different recipes, etc. I think my biggest aha was that I had to control my calories and I had to follow the low carb rules. I have a long way to go (lot to lose) so it may come off faster now. But I noticed that people with 20 or less seem to take longer, I know you must be very frustrated, perhaps another low carb could work for you? Some people have had tremendous success on South Beach diet. Rest tonight and do some research and experimenting ...you will find the right solution for you.

Thanks Jenn, you always make me see things clearer. I think I will try South Beach.. And I know I have to watch my calories also.. Sometimes I think what stops me form losing is I don't even reach 1000 calories, especially if I am doing low carb high fat...I don't get hunger! It's -5 here and I can't wait to get outside and walk!!!! Be blessed Sharon
