ErinJosie's Journal, 27 January 2014

Ugh, I just ate half of a Hershey's candy bar. 12.5 Carbs, I wasn't supposed to have. One one hand I am proud that I stopped at 1/2 of the candy bar, but I wish I could've not been tempted at all. I blame it on being that time of the month, where I crave chocolate, but I know that I can't blame it on that and need to exercise more willpower. :(

Every day is an opportunity to start over and make good choices. Don't beat yourself up when your lady time is telling you that you need a little bit of chocolate, and by all means don't let your guilt keep you from enjoying that little treat.

Beverly is right. I found a great site called Your Lighter Side that has the most amazing recipes for low carb, including the "oopsie rolls" and oopsie cake. So easy to make and they come out just like hamburger buns, the oopsie cake has only 3 net carbs and it has your chocolate on top!!! Don't give up, you can do it!!!

Tlm I am totally gonna check out this sight ! Thanks : ) And Erin ... shes right , you just need to find new ways to enjoy the things you crave so you dont feel deprived . I am finding that succeeding at this seems to be all about mental readiness and planning. If I dont plan my foods I slipup. But when I plan my foods I do well and I am not hungry and I really havent even been having cravings. That was always what killed my willpower. You can do this ! We all can ! Its just a major lifestyle change ! Learning to overcome the bad choices that created the problem in the first place.

Don't beat yourself up! If you cut everything out completely, you will only end up binging. I mean if life really worth living if you can't have chocolate every once in awhile? I just try to work out a little extra on the days I do to make up for it! :)

Thanks yall. You are right about indulding a bit otherwise it leads to binging which I am known to do. Alot of times to I will say, "oh well, I just ate carbs I wasn't supposed to so I might as well eat the whole thing and start fresh tomorrow." Trying to break that bad habit. TLM1961, I just happened across that site last night through pinterest when I was searching for low carb recipes. I definetely plan on making some goodies from there.

You should be proud you stopped at half. I would just adjust my other calories for the day. And its good to have a treat now and then. You're lucky that you can stop at half.

A treat now and then is fine. Consider this your treat for the week and continue on, and you can stay on the rails :)

It's great that you stopped at half. Not sure I could have done that. I'm an all or nothing. In an effort to lose 100 pounds, I decided to give up refined sugar entirely for as long as it takes to lose the weight. Today is day #124, but who's counting? Most days, I don't miss it. Gave up alcohol, too. But I guess I want that 100 pounds gone more than I want sugar or booze. Still, you're my hero for stopping at half. I hope you gave away the other half or put it down the garbage disposal!!

I would have ate the whole thing. I love just about any type of candy and desserts, and I love chocolate. That took a lot of willpower to only eat half of it. I agree that would be a good idea for a treat as long as one counts the calories.

Life happens. What helps is always having a healthy snack at your fingertips. There are healthy trail mixes that have a few choc chips in them. That way you get the sweet you crave, but in limited numbers and then you get to fill up on the healthy fats. I read the other day where someone said to help conquer those sweet cravings, we need to put more healthy fats in our body and the cravings go away. For the most part, it has worked for me. A handful of nuts and seeds with a few dried cranberries or a few chips of choc work great. I also love choc. We have a Sprouts locally and they sell dark choc covered honeycomb. Three very large pieces are 200 calories. I use them as treats when I hit mile stones of 10 pds. I eat one and it is large enough to satisfy that craving. Plus the dark choc is not as full of bad fat as milk choc. Honeycomb is a natural sugar, so I'm getting the best of the worst. You will do more damage to yourself beating yourself up mentally and emotionally than eating half a bar of choc. Drink lots of water during this time of the month too. Lemon juice in the water especially in the morning helps clean out the liver and wash out the junk in our systems.

It happens. Don't beat yourself up over it, just go back to your plan and try to keep moving forward. <3

need a sweet fix that won't kill your carb count? Try this instead: #1 churros- pork rinds plain put on a plate, melt real butter (1/4 cup) and pour over them and then generously sprinkle with cinnamon and splenda..they are yummy and very low in carbs...nearly nothing. Tastes like cinnamon toast crunch. #2 Chocolate Mousse-heavy whipping cream 1/4 cup, 1 heaping tbsp. of unsweetened cocoa powder, and 2 splenda packets. Then whip with blender till smooth like pudding or firmer if you like, it is like dk chocolate mousse and will help you stay away from the candy bars!!!
