Hammerzeit's Journal, 10 January 2014

I briefly thought about recording my food in that 'Food' thing under the "My Diet Calendar' heading there, but whenever I've looked, the serving sizes in the drop-down menu just aren't very meaningful or helpful to the way I eat, so I tend to just not bother. I mean, I don't really measure my food in cups or grams or whatever (though the thought of getting a food scale has crossed my mind). For example, this morning, I made a huge fresh salad full of iceberg lettuce, two tomatoes, one large cucumber, roughly a quarter of an onion, two radishes and a left-over chicken breast. Tossed a bunch of this, maybe two or three generous fistfuls if I had to estimate, into the container and topped it with some home-made blue cheese dressing and just went to town.

The bad thing about this is that I have no clue how many actual net carbs were in the entire shebang (it certainly could not have been many) but the ambiguity kind of concerns me a little. It's times like these where I kind of wish I had OCD to propel me along to make sure my food accounting is spot on, but I almost can't even face the idea of being so exacting.

At this point, having done Atkins a few times in my life so far, it feels like I'm relying on intuition and past experience to judge how many carbs are in a meal. I suppose as long as the weight is coming off, I can accept this approach as successful. If there's carb-creep, the scale will show it quick enough, and that'll be the time when I'll have to make myself get particular about measuring my food and keeping logs.

I hope it doesn't come to that, though.
