POWENCH's Journal, 02 November 2008

My halloween party this year was terrible. It was not fun, and it seemed really forced. No one stayed very long cause everyone could feel the mood.

As someone who has been giving parties for a long time, a loser party happens once in a while, and you can usually attribute it to something...this year I am not sure what was going on...except for some factors in my own situation.

In order to have a party and really have a great time, I think you have to let go. You can't be uptight about anything. This year I started weight watchers and as much as I need to lose weight and be healthier, I am wondering if the sacrifice for my personality will be worth the denial. I did not drink at the party and was paranoid of everything I ate the whole time. That takes a lot of mental energy..and a lot of control, and it blew my mood for sure. I usually count on my parties to get me through and halloween sets me up for the fall. This one bounced big time...and now I am worried that my fall will suck for sure.

Will I be happy to be skinnier... yes, but I wonder if the price will be so high that I won't be the same person...that out of control, "drive it like you stole it", person.

Everyone loves the sayings about living life to the fullest, but very few of us do it. I won't attest to doing it all the time..I understand the consequences of a life unchecked, but you have to let down at some point and let go....

Otherwise I have to blame my lame party on the economy...and how stupid is that?

I don't think this means your fall will suck. People are in general uptight about the economy, and did someone begin a debate about the election? (Did you serve enough food?)

Don't take it personally. I think sometimes we get caught up with expectations. If you expected it to not be fun because you couldn't drink or whatever then it may have contributed to the overall mood. But don't beat yourself up. Maybe next time envision how much fun it will be and let it happen. You might consider just having a treat that day instead of totally depriving yourself, just as long as you get right back on track the very next meal. Just learn from it. :)
