First day here. I'm at a point where I am beyond disgusted with myself. I'm at my wits end with the weight that I have gained over the last couple of years. And, it doesn't help that I have Hypothyroidism and am going through menopause. I welcome any support, advice, ideas, or anything else that could be of help to me through this difficult time.

Welcome! I'm new here myself but I'm really enjoying the community and support. The hardest steps are the first steps, for sure. For me, the most crucial item is a food scale. I am terrible at eyeballing and estimating portions. Weighing and measuring all of my food really keeps me on track with my calorie goals. Best of luck to you!

Welcome to FS. There is great support and knowledge here. I'm going through the same thing with hypo and menopause. Are you regulated on medicine for your thyroid? I do CICO. I do watch my carbs though, they don't really like me especially simple carbs. I'm not sure which way of eating you want to go. You can do this even. We will be your cheerleaders

I am frustrated too. I fee like I live on the weight loss- weight gain roller coaster. I also quit vaping a few weeks ago, but I am doing really well. I have been exercising every day during what Zoom meetings I can. I really need to get with the program. Hang in there. we can do this!

@tatauu22 I am taking NP Thyroid. I have been taking it for a few years now. I take 60 mg on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and 30 mg on the other days. I'm not completely convinced that it's the best for me but my doctor is satisfied with my numbers. You know how that goes. I've never heard of the CICO diet. Will check it out. I just try to eat the best that I can. Cravings get the best of me at times and then the guilt sets in.

@DeliriumTrigger The hardest part for me is getting my mind and emotions aligned. Food scale... yes, I need a new one. I'm always asking Google about serving sizes.

53 yrs old, hypothyroid and menopause - same girlfriend!! My middle grew in the last year and that thing has gotta go! Get mentally string first!! You have to want it! We have too many temptations in our culture. Get in it for the long haul. It may take a week or 2 to see progress but you will!!! We can do this!! Go girl go!!!!

@Serrafina I never had any problems with my weight until I was in my 30s and had back surgery. Then came the thyroid disorder and menopause. Congratulations on quitting the vaping! I wish you continued success with that. I have a huge problem with getting motivated to exercise or even go outside. I'm sure my depression, anxiety disorder or PTSD has something to do with it. But, something has to change.

Welcome to the FS family! Congratulations on taking the first steps towards better heath and well being. ☺️ You may have already tried this but, just in case. So my mother has hypothyroidism as well and she does not react well to carbs...they cause her to gain weight (even the healthy carbs). Have you tried a low carb diet? If you are into trying different diets may I suggest Keto? Best wishes on your journey and health!😊😊 We are all here to support you along the way

@Mama KKD It's a mess, isn't it. Frustrating as all heck! I wonder if I will ever be able to have any success against the thyroid or the menopause. OMG yes! My belly looks like I sit in a bar five days a week. LOL You hit the nail on the head about the mental part. Depression, an anxiety disorder and PTSD all make it harder for me. Lots of mixed emotions while trying to lose the weight. I do want it!!!! Badly!!

KLC67, can you try to go to another endocrinologist. That is so strange about taking different amounts. And yep, I know about those numbers. Isabella Wentz has a ton of info about the different thyroid issues. CICO is calorie in, calorie out.

hi I have the thyroid problem also. welcome . A few days ago I was totally disgusted with my self. I continue to count calories do fat secret. Today has been great. one day at a time....

@Linedrive841 I have not tried a low carb diet. Not sure how to start. And, as I think about it, I really don't eat many carbs, unless I am doing so and don't realize the carb content in the foods I'm eating. I have read about the Keto diet but thought it might be too much involved to keep my interest.

I gotcha KLC67, Keto is a bit tedious to do and is not for eveyone. I hope you can find something that works for you though😊😊💪🏼👍🏼
