Yoganewbie's Journal, 23 June 2013

I started in April at 150 pounds, the most I've ever weighed. Began brisk/speed walking 3 to 4 x a week. Enjoyed so went to 5 to 6 x a week for 2.5 to 3 miles each time. In May I added a yoga class 2-3x a week. Have kept at it and see some improvements. In May also added jogging spurts to walking. Can not run the distance but have been trying hard to increase time/ distance run. Kind if discouraging with slow progress. In June started using some weight equipment at the Y. I'm such a weakling but I have to start somewhere. Only doing weights after a yoga class which is mostly 3x a week. Finally bought a scale about 3 weeks ago and weigh in weekly. Last weight 6/14 was 143. Am also keeping food diary a few times a week. That helps keep me on track but takes time. Finding the right foods to eat is also very time consuming. Have 2 kids, ages 11 ans 13, so finding family friendly meals is challenging. Lunch is my most difficult meal.

So I'm about 10 weeks in to change and felt good and energized at beginning. But for the past 2 weeks shave felt tired, all day, not just after working out. This all a complete change for me. Never dieted before so am just doing my own thing to eat healthier. Never exercised before either so I don't know if this feeling tired is normal or not. Just had a physical in May and everything okay.

School ends this week for the summer. I' m worried about losing motivation and focus with kids around more. Will still go to gym since they are old enough for me to leave for an hour or two in the am. Not snacking and keeping healthier choices around I can hopefully continue to manage.

That's my start for journaling. I'm not any good typing on an iPad so this is short. All this nutrition and exercise info is great but also overwhelming. Thanks for all of the insight from others on this site.

All sounds fantastic, make sure you are having sufficient quantities of carbs as this is needed for enery and you are doing lots of exercise, if low this could be making you feel tired( I am not a specialist just an idea) check out the pie chart which I think is at the bottom of the page you enter your food. Good luck for the summer holidays but sounds like you will be fine :)
