ok men, divert your eyes if this is TMI...but perimenopause stinks!!! I am going on nearly 40 days of having my 'friend'. whoever came up w/ that name??? Had Aug's TOM, never completely stopped...and now I have finished Sept's TOM, and am still not stopping. What the heck!!!

I will definitely be calling my Dr. tomorrow - guess it's time for a check. Hate it though. I suppose if I have a tipped uterus or something, I'll be grateful I went...but if I just get told this is normal for perimenopause, I think I might fly into one of those fits of rage and disgust I just read about on menopause.com. (LOL).

Seriously, any of you women that have been here before me...have any advice??? (besides taking up stock in a tampon company!)

I'm right there with you TOM has been visiting me about 10-14 days from first day to first day! Doc says it's Perimenopause more than likely! We're trying Progesterone but last month I had a pretty bad reaction to it so new OBGYN says maybe hysterectomy... Good luck to you! We did a DNC and an Ablation a year ago in April and that took care of the heaviness I just spot now but now it's frequent spotting with the weight gain before each time.

I've had exactly that situation! Was told I was perimenopausal a few years back, as my normal like-clockwork cycles began to not be that way. About a year or so after that, I had an incident just like the one you're describing - a TOM that never stopped, although it was never really heavy. Anyhoo...Dr. did a general workup, pelvic exam, PAP, and endometrial biopsy. All negative, thankfully, so I was put on birth control pills to regulate everything right on thru menopause (perfectly acceptable treatment at that time). New research came out, pills were changed and eventually eliminated, as I had come thru menopause by that time. I never had any hot flashes. Never had any mood swings until they changed hormone dosage on me and didn't tell me that I might "react" to the drop in hormones!!! Luckily (for my family) that only lasted about 3-4 months.

I've been there. I finally found a doctor who specialized in Woman in mid-life. I had my last son at 36 and things were different after that. I never had female type problems up until that point. I had a D & C several years later and the results only lasted 18 months. My doctor told me that this type if thing happens and never really gave me a choice other than to suffer with it. After finding this last doctor she told me that I didn't need to suffer. I had the uteral ablation surgery & D & C. I am so glad I had it done. My periods are light & regular. My hormone levels are fine and that was 4 yrs ago so I was 45.

I wish I had some advise for ya Paula, I have heard of women having ablations for this problem, but I though peri-menopausal was a light period to them disappearing. I had a hysterectomy 6 mos after last baby was born 2 years ago, so I am of no help to you, must say I don't miss the TOM. lol

Mine have never been normal but this last one was from the pits of hell LOL. I ended up taking transexamic acid tablets just to cope - and this was during our huge earthquake and freaky aftershocks - when I did NOT need any extra stress either mentally or physically LOL. The pills worked wonderfully well and I know what I can turn to now when TOM gets bad... This month my girls are staying sore - before during and now after - poor hubby LOL And no I am not preggers - turned 40 recently so it could be perimenapause...

Paula, I am glad to see you are going to the doctor. It is always better to be safe than sorry. I wish I had some good advice for you. I had a hysterectomy in 2001, so I don't have the period anymore, but I do ovulate...not very regularly. I have suffered from hot flashes on and off since. One doctor told me that hormomes, not only what my body produces and what I had been taking for birth control up until my hysterectomy are stored in fat. So he told me that I would continue to have irregular ovulation and bouts of hot flashes and moodiness, water retention...the whole nine yards until I got some of the weight off and entered all the way into menopause. So another reason to get the weight off. Be sure to share with the Dr. your WOE, and that you have been losing weight. Well I hope every thing will work out for you and that your friend packs up and moves. :)

I had the same thing only I would bleed for 6 months at a time! all checks at the doctor came back clear so they said it must be down to stress! I was given tablets to stop the bleeding but when ever I came off them the bleeding came back! after about a year I had a very heavy bleed and then it just stopped on its own! but I had it for years! now every time the painters and decorators come I worry that it was not going to stop! I have been ok for about 4 months now but still keep my fingers crossed each month!
