Trying to get back on the pre-vaca good behavior track. Not too successfully. "Trying" is the operative word, though.

Weight seems to have dropped a little (did I see 158 pt. soemthing this mornin?!) I couldn't be sure, so I weighed myself 3-4 times in a row, and the number went all over the place. The scale's broken. I did it. I broke the scale. That's ONE WAY to lose the weight--break your scale and "fix" the needle to stay on a number of your choice!

I was working from home--or tried to! But I was weighed down by a family-related drama, and kept dwelling on it, so didn't get that much done. Thus, I will have to pull a late nighter t'nite! Probabaly regret it tomorrow as I have three classes, meetings, and no time to breathe all day...all the way through a reception in the evenin, a work dinner with a colleague etc.) I really have to get in my workout before work tomorrow or it won't happen at all!!

Food-wise, I started the low-carb challenge today...am still fuzzy about how I am going to do this, beign a vegetarian and all. Also, I am a little scared of becomin a carb-nazi...I am worried that it'll wreck my system entirely! I do believe in a balanced diet, and cutting out a vital food-group seems just WRONG! On the other hand, I have experienced the evil force of carbs!! And I have been stalling on my current weight for way too long. So, I really need to shake things up: low-carbing, running, and lifting weights would totally do it--I know it!! Now I just have to figure out some meal options. AND learn about this thing called Induction. And manage to keep track of my ww points AND the daily carb-count!! Maybe I'm doing this all ass-backward!! Maybe this crazy plan of trying too many things will backfire on me! Who knows. But I've GOT TO do something! Anything! I've laxed out and played around for too long!! I was SUPPOSED to have shed all this weight by my upcoming birthday! Well, it's coming this week, and the weight's nowhere close to going anywhere!! Well, so the birthday-goal is out the window, but I'd like to realistically lose all the weight by DECEMBER--that's still possible--30 pds in 4 months. But I really have to get serious!! I'll be very disappointed if I were the reason the weight didn't come off in '08!! That would mean I didn't live up to my NAME!!!

Here're my meals, points, and carb count:
3 laughin cow lite cheeses (3 pts; 0 carbs)
1 wasa cracker (0.5 pts, 9 carbs! Yikes!)
almonds (4 pts, 2 carbs)
walnuts (2 pts; 1 carb)
coffee with lite soy milk (0.5 pts; 2.5 carbs)
salad: spinach, tomato, cabbage, mushrooms, celery..and salad spritzer ( 0 pts; but how many carbs??)
Tofu stir fry with bok choy, mushrooms, thai chillies, garlic, scallions, sricha sauce, hoisin sauce, black bean sauce, some almonds (total 7 pts, 2 carbs for the tofu---but don't know how many for the veggies, sauces etc.)
4-5 Lychees (1 pt; 8 carbs)

Total: 18 pts; 24.5 pts +

Lessons learned: even a miniscule cracker could be carbs-heavy! Nuts, fruits, and all grain-products are not allowed during induction! Better luck tomorrow.

Oh, and no workout today! No excuse really! If I had time to cracksecret, and time to banter around with BA and her posse, I had time to go workout---no excuses. Well, maybe, I can blame the dog--the dog that bit Mary Beth, ate my homework, and caused me to miss my workout!!!

Oh, you naughty girl! Cracksecretting when you should be exercising! Tsk, tsk, tsk! Hehehe. It's tough to get out of the vacay frame of mind but it WILL happen. One word of advice about your low carb challenge... I don't think you can do true low carbing, a la Atkins or SB, and count points. The one plus of the low carb diets is the higher fat and protein allowances which would totally make your points fly off the charts. I know your vegetarian options for protein are limited and some of them are quite carby (beans and lentils?). Is tofu carby? If you have at least one source of low carb protein, you should be ok, although a little bored perhaps. Anyway, what I'm getting at is that you are allowed a higher amount of the good fats with these plans. Perhaps it's best to not fly by the seat of your pants on this one and do some serious research and reading on it before you get too far into it. You don't want to be hurting yourself, now! Make exercise a priority (yes, even over BA and her posse!). And even if you don't get to your goal by the end of the year, I don't think you will have failed your namesake. The year that you started your healthy, LIFELONG lifestyle IS GREAT for so many reasons. Just because you might not reach your final goal in the same year is not just cause for scrapping the whole year! Seize the day!

You are so successful as it is w/the weight already lost! Do not think of it as a failure if the 'final' weight as not been reached. You're exercising more, more mindful of what is being eaten. You ARE a success! Keep on doing what you're doing and you'll be at that final number. You know that if you're too focused on that final number it may possible give you an excuse to sabatoge yourself. I'm a bit worried about you being on a low-carb and vegitarian diet for too long. Keep building muscle. Increase the resitance weight until you feel sore the next day (if you don't that means you're not building anything). Hope all is well w/the family drama. You can do it. =)

I agree that you should not try to do points and low carb at the same time. The Atkins web site gives a wealth of info about the plan. Www.atkins.com. Although our challenge is 20carbs per day for 4 weeks, the induction phase is to last for only 2 weeks and then you can increase carbs. There are also lists of food you can eat. This website explains all phases of the plan. Check it out! I think it will help. :)

heh heh! Thanks, Ev, for the slap on the wrist!! I needed to be tsk-tsk-ed at! One of these days I'm going to get inspired by the amazing work you guys are putting in b/w all your turbojammin, running, walking, crunches, dance parties and so on!! I appreciate the advise on the atkins thing--I'll definitely look into that--not a thing to mess with on our own! I am so happy to be back "home" to FS-land and to all my awesome buddies--thank YOU!! And yes, MB, that picture was taken in Carmel-by-the-sea in Cali...thanks for the compliments!

You don't have to do induction menu to do the challenge. I add nuts and seeds (but no peanuts) because I cannot have cheese. If you are a Vegitarian, you might want to include those as well. You will also want to stock up on lower-carb boca and gardenburgers too (soy is not on induction either, but you need protein). Make it work for you and hang in there. Check out the links to the carb counters in the 20g nc challenge forums under the topic for Newbies! :)
