Back on the "highway to health" after a little "detour to debauchery" :)
I was gone Thurs through Sat to NYC (my old hometown where all of my best friends still reside..), and Sat afternoon we took off for Philly where my sister's 30th (surprise) b'day party was being held. I stayed there until Sunday night and got back on the redeye Monday morning.
In NYC, I met my friend and FS buddy, JulieC for lunch at Bryant Park, did a fair bit of shopping, and saw the movie, Mamma Mia...awesome time all around!! In the evening met some other good friends and had dinner at a great little Thai place, and then went for some decadent dessert and martinis to a cool little lounge...and got in some great catch-up time with my girls (Those Cosmos still rule!!!)
Friday was spent in a mad-dash shopping spree, where I had to still buy my outfit for the party next day, b'day gift for my sister, etc (can you say, last minute??!!). I got some great deals and some good buys (coach bags, some jewellery, outfits etc.). Shopping was more pleasurable as things fit better (compared to my last visit to NYC back in December where I was at my highest weight, and pre-fatsecret!). I did resist the temptation to buy too much as I am in-between weights and sizes and need to wait until I lose more weight.
Friday evening I got to go to my favorite spot in central park and listen to a live Tango band at summerstage, then had dinner at a cool, asian-inspired fusion restaurant, and then went down to the village for a late night/early morning drinks/lounge/late night jazz/ early morning junk food etc. I got to meet some more of my good friends, catch up, and enjoy the old familiar spots...it was almost 5 am by the time I got the bed (some things never change!:))
Saturday morning was another mad-dash hurry between getting in a brunch with another friend, a quick trip to Tiffany's (the fastest purchase I'd ever made at 15 mins for a "get-in, look around, buy, get-out") and managed to buy a beautiful Paloma Picasso necklace for my sister...then hurried back home, got ready for the party, and hurried out to go to Philly...
Saturday night was the most amazing time! My sister had the surprise of her life with seeing some 60-odd people, me, and old friends from school! Her boyfriend had planned the whole thing and it was beautiful and picture-perfect! There was dinner and lots of drinks (wines, port, watermelon-vodka cocktails etc)....and then more drinks at the next stop, a rooftop/penthouse bar where more of her friends came and got us to do more shots etc. After the cake-cutting past midnight, we headed out for some late-night clubbing...and there was even more drinking then (I stopped early, though...and just enjoyed the good, clean fun of dancing and music). Oh! at dinner, I'd made relatively good choices by skipping appetizers, and desserts; had only 1/2 of my pasta entree, and kept the wine to about 2 glasses. And only TASTED the port, and the pink cocktail, both of which were too sugary, so didn't drink past the couple of sips).
Overall, I had done well on the eating and drinking front on the trip, and with the loads of walking in the city, I did way better than my last trip to D.C., where I had felt fat and bloated by the end of the trip. On Sunday evening when I checked my weight in Philly, I was surprised to see I hadn't gained any! And then it went downhill from there. For some reason, I felt tempted to have chips on my late-night trip back home. (Although I did start off right by picking up some health bars, but later also picked up chips, crackers, etc...loads of salt.
The next day I was back at work and went all day long...and so b/w yesterday and today, I've picked up ALL the bad habits: hardly drinking any water, eating pastries and carbs, picking up chinese take-out for dinner, and not working out!!!! Can you say "off the wagon"???!!! I truly have let myself go...but it's only two days, and I'm not going to analyze the whys and wherefores, nor beat myself up.
All I can do is start by journaling here, taking stock, preparing for tomorrow, sleeping early, and going to gym early in the am, and drinking lots of water, and eating the lunch that I bring from home. C'est tout. That's all, folks! Let my "Chucky syndrome" not become my "Chunky syndrome"!! Let this only be a quick detour, and onto my on-ramp to the "Highway of Health"..(ok, sorry, this got too cheesy!! :))
Ok, so that's the LONG and short of it:) I'll put up some pics tomorrow...And am off to read all your haps and mishaps :)
