You know it’s a bad day when you Google search for “Counterfeit Turkeys?” I’m not going to mention the brand name because I don’t feel like being sued. I wouldn’t dare Utter that brand to you All. But I was right. Complaints of smell and rancid taste. I feel oddly vindicated. At least it’s not just me.

I pulled the turkey out of the freezer yesterday while diving for calf liver. I’m on the fence on whether I want to serve a Turducken instead or just get outta Dodge for Thanksgiving, period.

So I decided to go ahead & roast this one today. I’d bought this with one other back in the summer. I was not impressed with that one because of the weird taste. So another reason to roast this one early too. If it was good, I’d use it in the dressing (dressing / stuffing whatever). If it wasn’t, I would know long before ‘Turkey Day’.

It was weird too. Like, maybe it thawed & refroze a couple of times before I bought it? I’m not sure. I don’t even have a photo of it because I just ripped it apart with my hands.

I’ll debone it and give it to my friend Stick for his dog, Dutch. No photo because, well, I just wasn’t happy with it. It was almost this bad.

Ohhh no... Yeah I would suspect it being refrozen or just old. Will Thanksgiving still happen??? I was hoping for sales on turkeys here in Canada as well since I love them but so far nothing....

Well, this won't stop it from coming, haha. The Grinch who Ate the Thanksgiving Turkey. I think we're still around 90 cents a pound here. Should see a drop by weekend.

Good idea. So now I'm down to a coin flip. Stay home & serve prime rib? or head down to New Orleans ... decisions.

Yeah, but no good Thanksgiving story ever started with 'beef'... I'm sitting here recalling MargaritaVille on Bourbon Street one Thanksgiving. Boat drinks for breakfast. Unable to feel the fork with which I was poking my face. Ahh ... good times.

Okay, another in the 'no' column then.

Mint jullips to start the day. 💛💚💜 Or perhaps Café du Monde for beignets and café au lait. 🎵🎶🎶🎶🎷

You are so goal oriented about Thanksgiving! I've decided to go out to eat. I cook all of the time and FS has taught me not to waste my time on foods I don't love. I don't love Thanksgiving dishes enough to consume the extra calories for a week of leftovers (it is only two of us).

Shir - that would be fun, yeah? LOVE CDM at 2am; you see some really interesting folks.

Binky - I like the label 'goal orientated'. Reality - it's more likely manic distractions. I do enjoy cooking - especially for a crowd. My husband passed away 2 days before Thanksgiving '13 so I try to keep myself really busy this time of the year. I used to own a commercial building downtown that I set up & leased as a small event center; it would hold about 150 people comfortably. I would start cooking a week ahead and with my daughter & her family we would feed the on-duty police / fire / county workers and anyone else who stopped in and wanted to eat. But I sold it so I'm just casting about for different distractions.

+1 for the Chevy gif. Boo yucky bird, that is sadz. I hate turkey actually?? Prefer roasting chickens, love duck, did NOT care for goose (it looked and tasted a bit too much like roast, um, dinosaur, actually), and always love a rack of lamb. I love that you used to feed all these people, that seems exactly like the generous person you are 💕🌈✨

Adult - thank you. I know a lot of people who don't like turkey. My son in law always did a candied ham. I've not ever made rack of lamb. I'm beginning to warm up to Chris' Prime Rib suggestion.

I love ham! Rack of lamb is actually really easy but not everyone likes it. How do you do prime rib? I’ve never made it!

But I'm also teetering on getting away. However, I'm thinking more about the Gaylord now. It's not as far a drive as New Orleans. I dunno. Last year I served up dinner to the family & friends the week before so they could all go elsewhere (other parents still living) so I binged on Netflix. Nothing wrong with that - just felt like any other day. I may even do that again. I have plenty of offers from kind people. I'm usually pretty good about getting on with my life but this holiday takes me back to square one for some reason.

Prime rib is the easiest to roast. The hard part is getting a better cut of meat. When I do roast it I have the butcher dress it (cut off the bone & retied for roasting). Then it's just salt, put in the oven uncovered, and leave it the heck alone for the allotted time.

Bella, you're welcome to join us at my sister's for Thanksgiving;she lives in Coldspring, just north of Houston, in the piney woods. Beautiful and peaceful, just six of us, we'd love to have you. 💛💚💜
