UK cats's Journal, 19 March 2013

UGH, so frustrated!!! I eat right (less than 1200 calories), exercise (5 miles on an exercise bike on the 2nd tension setting and weights for arms) and gain a pound overnight!! WTHeck is up? Hopefully it's water and will go away by tomorrow!
Unfortunately, I think my body has grown attached to this extra 10lbs and doesn't want to lose it.

You are probably under eating for the amount of activity. You might try eating a few more times each day. Say a piece of fruit like an apple or a pear for one snack and a handful of baby carrots for another snack. Both are very filling low cal options that could help rev up your metabolism. Watch the sodium in canned foods.

Keep in mind that a scale is not always the best measurement of success. Muscle weighs more than fat and more muscle means you can burn more calories. The best tool to measure progress is a mirror. Don't get discouraged and keep at it.

Looking at the last couple of days I'm thinking sodium could be the issue. At least part of it. I loooove soup and had no idea what it was doing to me until my weight got lower. I'd say up the protein and it you can make your own soups. They will still be on the high end but nothing like canned. If you must use canned drop a bunch of extra meat and things in. On crunch nights I do it for my kids. Good old campbell's chicken noodle but I cook up a plain chicken breast, dice it up and throw it in. Side of baby carrots to help balance and all set. Less broth and more Protein, fresh veggies... my husband likes the chucky soups and now does that will all of his (adding more meat). Just something to think about. Good luck!

Try not to eat less than 1200 calories a day, especially if you are exercising. This little trick might work for you... vary your calorie intake just a little. Try a 1300 cal day (on an exercise day) then back to 1200 and do that for a couple weeks. It just might be enough to trick your body back into weight loss mode. Another trick is to change up the kind of exercise you are doing. It really is true that our bodies adapt and sometimes need something different to get that metabolism going again. Good luck!
