I had the world's best pedicure this morning; a time for great introspection and a meditative appreciation for life. I felt the interconnectedness of all of us, with a deep appreciation for the woman who's job it was to give me this sensory delight (I thanked her sincerely and added a nice tip when I paid the bill).

This pedicure was at a nice spa, deluxe all the way from the glass foot-soak bowl to the stressless chair, eye pillow, warm blankets, warm wrap around my neck, and the hour-long process of the most focused, gently, thorough pedicure, topped off by a delightful inhalation of grapefruit aromatherapy. I breathed mindfully during the gentle attention. Vanilla sugar scrub, foot & leg massage, warm booties, & all the rest including my choice of color, OPI "Purple with a Purpose" perfectly applied. I finished by drinking delicious tea in a relaxation room, still in a meditative state, before thinking to check my phone & find that my partner was outside waiting for me.

After last night's ballet, I feel so blessed with the richness of my life, of life in general. I can turn on Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake and remeber the magic of the dancer's performance and the orchestra's playing. We were in the second row, tickets given to my partner by one of her bosses (who used our Timbers tickets a few times). Yes, I cried at the end; the sad beauty of the story, the dancers, the music.

I just mindfully ate some 70% dark chocolate. I don't need to go to a spa to meditate, to live mindfully, but it sure served as a wonderful reminder.

One of the things that came up was a discussion my partner and I had about the "connectedness" of society today after we saw a neighbor walking his dog while doing something on his phone, paying very little attention to his pet, little furry buddy. My parner brought out how relaxing it was in Costa Rica where they didn't stay connected in the electronic way. They talked with each other, with guides, shopkeepers, townspeople, staff at the resort, face-to-face conversations that are sadly lacking in many people's lives as they have to check their cell phones on average every 91 seconds.

I'm seriously thinking that I will take a break from FatSecret for the two weeks I'm on Maui. I may wear a watch instead of relying on my cell phone to tell me the time, date, weather, local news, where to find a Zumba class (scratch that last one, Zumba's a must, lol), to check a menu before going to a restaurant. I think I've learned enough about how I should eat over the past year or so that I'll do fine.

If I gain weight, I'll definitely know how to take it back off. I think it's important for my partner and I to disconnect from work and technology and spend more quality time connected to ourselves and others. I will definitely miss you all, and may visit an internet cafe to check in on my kindle or on my phone when my partner has to do payroll from Maui.

I have almost two weeks before I leave to practice mindful awareness of myself and people around me and leaving my phone alone, using my kindle for reading books as well as connecting more long distance with you all and absorbing what you share & commenting now and then.

I consider this a home of sorts; you have helped me on this journey to improved health, encouraging, commiserating, cheering me on.

Thank you.

Love your journal today and agree completely - I have an old phone - usually off (dead battery) and at bottom if my purse. I get weary having conversations (if I have any) with the tops of peoples heads as the tap on phones or as you wrote checking it every 90 seconds. Good on you for the great massage and being kind to your body, mind and soul.
