One cup of cooked penne pasta = Calories: 220kcal | Fat: 1.29g | Carbs: 42.95g | Protein: 8.07g. (For 1.5 cups per week, 310 calories, ~2g fat, ~65g carb, ~12g protein.) I can see how that could fit into a *sane* weight-loss or maintenance regimen. However...

Growing up, we all had "big appetites." "Sanity" did not rule at the table. We kids ate all we wanted -- probably 2-3c spaghetti, plus meat sauce, in a single dinner. Add to that sugary cereals for breakfast and PB&J sandwiches on highly-processed sponge (aka "enriched" white bread) for lunch. My younger brother and sister were very active and competitive swimmers, and therefore normal weight and very fit, as children, but they've both struggled with obesity as adults. Especially my sister, who weighs more than I do now; my brother, too, although better proportioned.

Mac & Cheese, one serving is impossible for me, comfortable food. Enjoy😋

Miraculum, were your parents overweight?

Diablo, my father (6') and maternal grandmother (~5'2") were overweight as adults, my mother less so. My grandmother probably weighed more than 250 pounds (BMI>45) throughout adulthood. Her cooking style (heavy German fare) and serving sizes determined what my father ate, and that determined what and how much my mother fed us.

And Grandma has a *wicked* sweet tooth and a penchant for chocolate. I found and raided her "secret stash" of "meltaway fudge" nearly ever Sunday for years. She never called me on it!

Should say, *had* a wicken sweet tooth. She died in 1969.

Yep, that is what determines our relationship with food. My parents also had no knowledge on nutrition and we could always eat whenever and however much we wanted. Which is why I ended up obese. Two of my siblings are also obese. My older sister like me is into fitness and watching her intake.

My grandma could make any vegetable a high-cal, high-fat extravaganza!

That's the delicious kind.

Thats how I grew up too. I used to eat cereal on the weekends, in front of the TV, and put so much sugar on my Rice Krispys that there would be a crust on the top, and wash it down with a Pepsi. I would eat a whole package of EL Fudge cookies, or nutter butters or WHATEVER. So, its amazing that I didnt grow up morbidly obese, and now its a challenge to follow serving sizes and still enjoy whatever food I want. I love M&C but I wont eat it often because its a hard one for me.

I grew up eating real MC, not out of a box. I make MC once in a while now and make it with some awesome cheeses. If you ever try eating the real thing you would never even consider eating the yellow stuff from a box.

my MIL made MC with spaghetti noodles instead of macaroni. real cream and about 6 eggs. I don't like MC, but her's was awesome.

I did nutrisystem a few years back. seems like every thing had pasta in it. It was low glycemic diet.

Mbd...we went to a Macaroni and Cheese restaurant in Wisconsin Dells and it was fabulous! If you ever go there, you have to check out out. I had this jalapeño popper Mac and cheese 3 weeks ago and I'm still thinking about it. 😌😍
