"To boldly go where no davy has gone before"......(well not for about 15 years anyway!)

I lost 2lbs last week which brings me to 172, lower than I have been for years and years and its a terrifyingly brilliant mental boost, especially after the weeks and weeks of plateau or minimal loss, tis proof that iffin ya just keep at it - 'twill all be grand in the end. Over here we weigh ourselves in stones and pounds and yesterdays weigh in brings me within just 2lbs of breaking 12 stone.. and bejaysus, that would be mighty! I forgot to measure last night - that should be interesting too.

Sarah has lost another 1/2 inch off everywhere this week and its finally begun to register on the scales for her too.... must be all the jogging that we're doing now, as we dodge tractors and farmdogs on the ould country boreens and roads.

Am really feeling for Tiernan who was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at Easter. He coped so well with EVERYTHING, the blood testing and the 4 injections a day.... he was brilliant. I think that it has taken this long though for it to register with him that this is it... recently he has really felt the limitation of being in a shop and NOT being able to buy anything that he instinctively likes... (its just great that Sarah meself and Patrick are on the same eating plan as him). We'll sort it out with time, explanation, encouragement and hugs...tis just a bit sad for a 8 year old.

Conor returns to us on Wednesday (after being thoroughly spoilt in the UK for a forthnight)... can't wait...

Now!! off for a snoop around to see whats what!!!...

huggles...

so happy for your 2 pd loss, and especially for breaking that "fecking" plateau!! Sorry to hear about Tiernan's diabetes---but I'm sure he'll adjust fine--he has a great, supportive family!

Awe... sorry for Tiernan and the hardship of no sweets. I know how tough that is, as I was pregnant with diabetes with my 2nd child. Not fair at all to tell a pg woman that she can't have them big cinnamon buns and 32oz of fountain coke, not one bit! I feel for him, but there are a lot of good products that can satisfy that sweet tooth! Russell Stovers has some great sugar free candies and Xylitol, can be found on my favorite supplement site: www. vitacost .com. It's spendy, but I even made a strawberry/rhubarb jam with it and it was delicious!! It's my vice when I need a sweet treat... I make a piece of sourdough toast with gobs of cinnamon and xylitol which is virtually a zero on the glycemic index, with only about 9 calories per teaspoon. Great job on the new LOW!! So awesome to see you and Sarah are kickin' it up and making things happen!! Way to go, keep on rockin' it up! :)

Poor kid. Diabetes runs in my family and one of my good friends has it as well. It can be tough for an adult but a little one? I feel for ya and him. Great job on the inches, weight and jogging! Keep it up!

You are indeed MIGHTY, my friend! Perseverance is NO PROBLEM for you! Why, you could be at 12 stone by next week! Tiernan does have some adjusting to do, and sure it's not fair for a child to have to deal with any health problems, but it's such a good thing that you have the diagnosis and can treat this. AND Tiernan is SO LUCKY to have such a supportive family -- doubly so that you are all eating the way he has to! He won't have to sit there and eat special stuff while the rest of you pig out on something else. He'll get to where he won't even notice there's anything to miss. (I agree with Bully that SF candy is a marvelous thing for an occasional treat!)

YAHOO! Congrats on your loss!! I'm doin' an Irish jig for you and Sarah right now :) I hope Tiernan can adjust to diabetes as soon as possible. With great parents like you and Sarah, I'm sure he will. Also there are new developments for diabetes on the horizon and I hope there will soon be some breakthroughs that can help Tiernan and the multitudes of people who have diabetes. And your boy Conor is finally coming home!! I bet you're really happy and relieved :D Have a wonderful day !

wow..it must be so wonderful to be losing weight together as a family! Congrats on reaching the lowest in years..and hopefully it isnt the lowest yet..how much did ya weigh at birth? (LOL) Dont worry too much about the little un. The fact that he has such great parents looking out for him and his diet means that he will be well taken care of. I have hypoglycemia (which is also a symptom diabetics get when their sugar levels go low) and ever since I started my low carb diet, almost all the symptoms have disappeared. You are already a low carb expert and there are so many wonderful recipes available via buddies that hopefully Tiernan wont feel like he is missing out on good food. Best o luck!

At least your family is doing it all together. What a great thing that you are teaching to your sons. Sarah is also a great example.
