Brianna Marie's Journal, 23 July 2010

this would be day 2 of continuing to lose weight. One of the biggest concerns that i have while trying to lose another 60 lbs. is that im trying to quit smoking as well and i am afraid that when i do finally quit that i will be eating more. Yesterday i didnt do so well with my calorie intake and i was above 2500 calories. today im hoping to do better, and im trying to get more protein into my system. Luckily now that my 10 month old son, Luka, is crawling i am having to get up more to go chase after him so he doesnt get into anything hes not supposed to be into or get hurt because today he discovered the joys of climbing. also today i am planning on walking around the mall for a while with a friend who is also trying to lose weight. im chosing the mall today because, well, its syracuse NY and once again its raining. i love it here but the weather changes more frequently then most people change their underwear. So as far as the quitting smoking and eating more fear, does anyone have any suggestions that i might be able to use so that i dont eat more?

You do not have to eat more to quit smoking :) It is all a choice. I started losing weight in Jan 2009, but I didn't fully quit smoking until Jan 2010. And I went right on eating the same and losing weight. The only other thing that changed was adding more exercise. I think the added sweat helped get the nicotine out of my system faster. You can make the choice. Nothing is going to force you to eat more when you quit. You may find yourself jittery and craving putting things in your mouth initially, but for that I suggest finding some tea or other non-calorie drink that you really like and having that instead of reaching for the snacks. You can do it!

I agree that you don't have to start eating more because you've stopped smoking. If you look at smoking as a habit, you can try to break the habit without replacing it with another. If you are afraid that you will be inclined to replace smoking with eating, make a conscious effort to replace the smoking habit with another habit, like what kstubblefield did with knitting. Depending on how fidgety you are, you might want to make sure it's something you do with your hands so that you cant hold a cigarette. If you're not a fidgety person, just think of something you enjoy doing...or learn something new. :)
