Just had to share, breifly, something new I learned this last weekend. Dont' know if anyone knows who Joyce Meyers is, but I got to see her at the Tacoma Dome this last weekend. (She is AWESOME!) Her focus this weekend was on setting boundries, not only spiritual boundaries but emotional and health boundaries. Every day living boundaries. She shared a couple of her "boundaries" with us. 1) She only allows herself 2 sweets a week. Whatever she wants, but only twice a week. 2) She loves whipping cream in her coffee so once a week she has whipping cream in her coffee. 3) She makes "me" time for herself once a week. Usually, it's on Sunday. She does whatever she wants on that day. She really pointed out the importance of "slowing down" in our daily lives and the fact that we NEED "me" time. I liked her thoughts on why we need to set boundaries for ourselves. If we don't, we tend to live from one extreme to the other. i.e. All or nothing kind of thinking. With boundaries you have a "safety zone" to keep you on track and avoid wrecklessness. It's okay to step out of the safety zone once in a while but to have a productive, properous life, we need to have our boundaries. I really liked that concept. When it comes to eating healthy, we must have boundaries!
I've decided to establish one of my first eating boundaries this week. I've decided to allow myself 2 sweets a week. Having insulin resistance and being at high risk of diabetes, I need to eliminate sugar from my diet. I'm going to take baby steps.
The other thing she said was this:
Remember these two words "ON PURPOSE"!
If you wait until you "feel like it", you'll never do it. To acheive anything and succeed we must do it ON PURPOSE! I like that!

Determination and will have to be there, yes you are right, ON PURPOSE!! lol I like to think of it as "allowing" instead of "treating" my self to sweets. I try to view it as a choice made to have something, even though I really should not. The less I think of it as a "treat" or a "reward", as a much coveted food, the less I am to over indulge or just be happy with a small amount of a sweet treat. I do like to have a slice of cinnamon toast with xylitol and it's oh so sinfully good, like regular cinnamon toast, with out the guilty sugary calories! I still feel guilty with it!! lol Just not "as" guilty. :) xoxo
