This was a bit of a gain... I can attest when you are eating off meat and cheese platters for a number of days that the calories really add up while feeling you really haven't had a meal!
This last week has been filled with funeral planning and some heavy projects like clearing out an income property in preparation for having it reno-ed soon. Unfortunately it also meant that I was eating on the fly and grazing at meat and cheese platters.
Yesterday was my husband's funeral. I am very satisfied with how everything turned out. My adult children, my sister and myself worked hard to create a fitting tribute to the man that was my husband. We had an excellent celebrant who reflected our wishes exactly, live music by a long time friend singing with an acoustic guitar, an amazing eulogy by my sister (many many people commented that it was the best eulogy they had ever heard), a slide show created by my son who included beautiful video footing from when my husband was a small child, a song that a childhood friend of my husband's wrote in remembrance of my husband and recorded at a studio in time to be sent to us to be played, and music chosen by my husband. I was expecting around 150 people to attend. One of the guests told me that he did a quick head count and there were approximately 300 people. They came from long distances and from all parts of his life. I was truly humbled by the out pouring of support and love for my husband by so many people who cared for him.
Today I will be saying good-bye to many of the long distance friends and wishing them safe travels. Tomorrow will be taking a deep breath and looking at what next needs to be done.

@59Carol, You're doing a great job "taking care of business," which I know is necessary. The year of firsts is always a challenge. Go with God!

Thank you for sharing with us. I have been checking every day to see if you have left a journal message for us as to how you (not your diet) are doing. What a very hard time this is for you. I know all these things that have to be done, are keeping you and your mind occupied. At some point, when the people leave, and the "cheese and meat platters" are gone, it will be quiet. That is even harder. We are praying for you to be comforted by God. I am so glad you were pleased by his funeral, a lot of work went into it. It sounded beautiful. You are a phenomenal woman. We are all sorry you lost him, but are glad you have family and friends. Please reach out to your heavenly Father that loves you so much.

Carol.. The strength you’ve shown is such a wonderful example for your children. I am sure he was with u all in spirit and appreciated what sounds like a beautiful tribute. I liked your comment about grazing on the deli meats and cheese. Wishing you the best as you continue your own journey one step at a time.

Thank you to all of you for your support and kind wishes. It will be 'interesting' in the way of the curse "may you live in interesting times" over the next days, weeks and months. So far my plan is to take each day as it comes and embrace it for what it is and then move on to the next day (or moment as the case may be).
