Finished chemo last august. Cannot find my energy yet, no endurance at all. I gained almost 30 pounds during chemo which helped me
fight a good fight, and so far, I have beat the devil. Nerves on edge because I have more scans next week, fingers crossed!
Definitely getting back on the better diet track, but it’s taking some work! Looking forward to warmer weather and getting out at least for a daily stroll.
Because I saw my doctor when something didn’t seem right, I was diagnosed with uterine cancer, because I had to have surgery to remove the uterus, my Dr found that I was in the early stages of ovarian cancer and I was able to face it head on.
Please friends, if something seems even the slightest bit out of what’s ordinary, getting checked is always best. Early detection is key!

Did your physician recommend a 30 lb weight gain as part of your treatment regime? That must have been tough especially if you didn’t really feel up to eating that much. Now you can concentrate on healthier eating and slowly progressing your physical activity and that will help you return to whatever your goal weight is. Activity creates energy— hang in there. You have done the hard part. Congratulations. Wishing the best for clean scan results.

Thank you! Weight gain was not a recommendation, but weight loss was definitely not desired. I was encouraged to consume 80-120 grams of protein daily, and to eat when and what i could. Carbs were all i could stand on the “bad” days, and the nutritionist suggested protein bars and shakes as often as possible in addition to regular eating Fresh fruits and vegetables were to be avoided as were restaurants buffets and salads. There apparently is a high risk of affecting the immune system. Thank you for the best wishes on the scans! Im having some anxiety waiting to get them done.

Yes- with a compromised immune system you are generally better served to eat frozen vegetables and fruits. Same wonderful nutrient set but without the potential for bacterial exposure that your body might not be able to cope with.

Thank you Kenna! I am so glad to be able to eat fresh foods again for sure. I love your advice, “activity creates energy” I will keep that in mind 😀❤️

D: Glad you caught it early. My wife is now in hospice care and she did everything the doctors told her to, sometimes it just gets you. I've heard diet and attitude can be everything. Stay the course and hang in there.

I underwent similar Cancer regimen. Chemo and radiation did a number on my entire system, especially abdominal area ( I have colon cancer). I go Monday for a follow-up CT scan (neck, chest, abdomen, pelvis). It's been over 2 years since my last treatment and I still struggle with energy, blood levels tanking, weight fluctuations, etc. BUT, I'm alive...and so are you. We will keep working our way towards HEALTHY! One day at a time...baby steps... You can do it! Never quit!

Keep up the fight. I had my last round of chemo on May 4, 2018. Still looking for energy. I was diagnosed with Fallopian Tube Cancer in December 2017. I've been through Breathing Therapy (for my lack of breath after minor exertion like walking up the driveway into my house), and currently going through Physical Therapy (for my exacerbated back and neck pain). None of the Dr.'s I've seen want to equate what I'm experiencing, or the difficulties I'm having as Chemo related. Which is ridiculous, when everything related to Chemo treatments clearly states that everything I'm experiencing is a know side effect. Just breathe and know that you're not alone in the fight.

I had breast cancer in 2013 - surgery, chemo, radiation. I also gained weight around 70 pounds. They also wanted me not to lose. I didn't feel I ate a horrendous amount however I gained a horrendous amount! My appetite was never affected. I have always been able to eat no matter how ill I am. I did lose it. Kept it off for a year or two and was nailed with some family stuff and gained it back and then some. Regarding the energy. It took a full 5 years to get my energy back. I was warned by another lady who had breast cancer to expect this. I was sure I could come back sooner. I didn't. It was 5 years and now I am about 98% back to where I was. I am more than good with that! My advice? Eat well, exercise regularly and push yourself a bit but not too much in order to build your physical capacity.
