I can't believe it...

I started running back in August (a truly first time runner), came to a standstill in my progress over the winter months due to bad weather, and have started running again now that the weather is nice. I had to move back down to run 3 minutes, walk 1 minute because the last couple of times I went, my shins were in so much pain. Cardiovascularly I could handle the exercise, but my muscles were screaming "STOOOOOOOOOOOPPPPP!!!!" lol! Believe me... I haven't been able to run longer that 5-9 minutes straight EVER!

Well, I went for another run today and have some great news!! I started with my usual run 3 walk 1, for 3 reps... when I got to my fourth, I accidentally ran through my 1 minute walking time. I looked at my watch and thought... "Oh well, I'll just keep running through my 3 minutes without a break. Once those 3 minutes were over, I thought... "Hey, I feel great! I'm going to see how far I can go without stopping!" So I did...

I ran for 20 minutes STRAIGHT without stopping or slowing down! It's amazing what your body can do when you try. It really is all in the mind. I felt so good at the end I could have kept going, but I figured, I better stop before I kill my legs and not be able to walk tomorrow!

Total distance covered: 5 kilometers (approx 3 miles for you imperial measurement people).

Total walking time (not counting warm up/cool down): 3 minutes

Total running time: 29 minutes

GOOD FOR YOU!!!! It's it amazing to feel that you can, you CAN do it!?!? WAY TO GO! I'm so excited for you! I know how great it feels so I truly FEEL your happiness! Keep it up! I am going to go run tomorrow! WAY TO GO!!! And you're so, so right, it's all in the mind. The power of your mind is amazing. I keep myself distracted w/ my ipod and that helps a lot:-) You go girl! And a thought I had when I was finally able to go TWO MILES, was "I can't be fat forever if I can run two miles!" :-D

Great job lady! I'm so glad you didn't give up. Yep, the body definitely IS truly amazing. All it asks of us is 3 basic things: Feed it properly, give it excerise, and give it the proper rest it needs. The body will do the rest. Three simple requests, but it's amazing how hard we make it to fulfill those simple requests. I'm proud of ya for hanging in there & keep it up! lol
