It's a feasting day, breaking a 41 hour fast, ie last meal was dinner Sunday. It has been proven that alternate day fasting for yo-yo dieter women (established insulin resistance), is the best protocol to not only reduce weight but also heal insulin resistance, ie. move the body set weight point from HIGH (which took 2 decades of eating crap and yo-yo dieting to get there... This part is crucial if you want to easily maintain the weight loss. If you simply restrict calories/ie, count calories, and do not cut out flour/processed food/sugar, you will not fix the body set point and no matter what you will gain it all back. That is NOT happening to me this time.

I am STUFFED! Still thinking I need as much food as is on that plate, but really probably only need 2/3s - afraid to cut back, but time to accept it :) I mean who eats 1 egg? Maybe ME!

Thanks for all the info. I appreciate it. I have not done a long fast but it is on my list of things to do to keep my metabolism going. that is a great plate right there

I have to tough out the long day from about 4-bedtime i am mildly hungry, but it is a completely different feeling than climbing the walls in search of that next "fix", sugar/carb that I used to be fixated on. Once in bed with the lights out, I wake up not even knowing I hadn't eaten the day before. I have my coffee and then it's noon. When I see the Keto Stick purple I know that the only fuel I am burning is the fat from my belly and I tell you it is a victory!!

and... just a bit more info, they have seen at the 24 hour mark there is a distinct uptick in both adrenaline and growth hormone which both RAISE metabolism, and it is the longer fast that heals the insulin resistance. If i were to have simply stopped at 24 hours, ie, dinner the next night, that is simply calorie restriction and still feeding the body 1x / day OMAD. Not the same benefit as going to bed on an empty stomach. Last night was the first night after 2 full weeks of alternate day fasting that I didn't squirm around awake the second night, normally the adrenaline keeps me zinging, but it is worth every minute knowing the end result.

Biketolive: Your discipline in fasting is admirable. I am doing daily I.F. and have watched enough of Berg and Fung to see that it is a help but not nearly the benefit of the longer fast. Even though I am doing this mostly for health reasons, I too want the benefits of losing belly fat. My husband told me at 118 that I am fat. Yes, I do have extra fat especially in my belly; at 77 years of age I have lost muscle tone and my bones are like crepe paper, 5'1", with small bones. I am so glad for you that your husband has been so good to you and not complained. Yes, you do carry the extra weight great. We are all individuals, aren't we. You are doing great! You say Berg and Fung have changed your life, I believe they have changed mine too, and am hoping I will never yo-yo diet again. I doubt I can do longer fasting, I get so very hungry, and dizzy too. But I am eating much less than you. Twenty hours is just about the longest I have gone, maybe twenty two once, but stuck to sixteen mostly lately with more stress, and hope to settle about eighteen regularly. My mind is much clearer, and some other physical things are getting better. Not entirely sure I am really in Ketosis: have been Keto since about the first of Dec. but am losing, have been very strict in my diet, and am happy where I am at, weight wise. You are an inspiration, and please give your husband a hug for me.

Err, um - my mother lost 115 lbs back 2009 - she still counts cals and eats at her maintenance calories for age (67), weight, and height. She's still maintaining 9 years later at 135 lbs. She not only eats bread, she makes her own bread using her very own starter dough. It's delicious and I love the way the house smells when she bakes it :-)

Egull1 good for her! she is most likely not insulin resistant and wasn't a big yoyo dieter most of her life.
