kimjinxie's Journal, 10 October 2012

Well it was a busy day. I worked at home today, so for breaks I did a couple loads of laundry and at lunch I made dinner. Since dinner was ready when hubby got home from work, we got the camper ready for this weekend after dinner and then took a walk to the grocery store and to get a scoop of ice cream. :)

See, I like how you remember the things you normally do and include it as exercise...we don't realize how much we expend during our normal daily routines...

True, Hildi, but is it just me? I log it, but have a hard time thinking that the little bit of laundry and toilet-cleaning I do has much impact. Probably because I think "exercise" has to get your heart pumping...thankfully, cleaning the toilet doesn't do that to me, lol!

Exercise is nothing more than movement. Every movement has a caloric value. The trick is making sure that your caloric usage is BEYOND what you take in. Over time that caloric deficit will cause you to lose weight. Now there are other minor issues that may mask weight loss BUT ultimately when you have a caloric deficit you will lose weight. Housework is the new workout!

Thanks Hildi and Baxie for your comments. And yes, I watch for a caloric deficit to tell me if I am doing ok. Obviously if I want to pig out on carbs all day or go to my favorite bagel place, then I know that I have to do more strenuous exercise to burn that off. So...when I want a bagel, I go for a walk to get it instead of driving the 6 miles there. :)

...and, oh, I didn't mean to be putting it down, just saying how I "feel" about it ;)

Baxie - It's all good. And cleaning the toilets doesn't raise my heart rate enough either :)
