Bandrai's Journal, 06 December 2018

I had a real urge for chocolate yesterday evening.. and I had all kinds of imaginings of what bar(s) I would go out and buy. I rationalised, I've been for a run three times this week; I haven't had any chocolate for at least 8 weeks, chocolate isn't that bad for you... (some nutrients).. I will walk 15 mins to get it and same to come back ( capitulating was predicated on not taking transport).. I will do a half hour walk on top before the shop if I want it. I went for my walk, did an hour. At the end was the reward of the chocolate I wanted. I got to the shop. I walked around the aisles and I decided I would substitute for nuts, strawberries and some fancy cheese. I still had a 20 minute walk home. I got home I had a handful of nuts and I had earned a big bar of chocolate. I'm trying this every time I want something bad. The walk actually bounced me up no end.. and by that time my longing was gone. Sharing this to help people, because sometimes our cravings are too hard to resist. But if we delay sometimes we can go past them.

good job, I too have been craving chocolate and bought the fixings to make chocolate chip cookies. I know I am pretty lazy with making deserts so far I have not put them together.

Try DR. No chocolate bars, negative carbs with the fiber and variety of flavors and take care of the void, and very TASTY !!!

You’re half way to your goal. Don’t self sabotage. It starts with one thing. That’s my advice.

Oh what are these DR s then?? I might have to check them out. To be honest if I do have a craving it'll be for a particular favourite item. So, if I am trying to deny that it helps if I can substitute with something a bit of a treat.. like the strawberries or just try and delay distract myself until it subsides. Funnily the exercise can help, it was a lovely blustery evening and enjoyed walking round in the wind :))

Baskington you always have some cool tricks up your sleeve!! Baking is a good one too because you basically have some amount of effort in actually doing it!! Plus I love to share out the baking.. so normally by then I get a buzz for that and don't need the treat!! My favvourite is a twist on Jamie Olvier indulgent dark chocolate sponge cake where I add cointreau and raspberries ... mmmmhh!!

Your method of delaying gratification was excellent. I find too that if you imagine when at the store the cheap tasting chocolate in those bars it is another deterrent. Of course quality chocolate is harder to resist then! Great food choices. The walk undoubtedly gave you some happy hormones that took care of the craving. Excellent plan!

Thanks Carol! Yeah a nice walk being out in the wind .. certainly helped get over the craving. Little bit of light exercise can lift your mood just as well.
