Round-up of Friday

Luckily, obsessing over the effects of various diets and exercise on weight gain/loss was not all I did today! :)
Finally got my laundry done, worked (or tried to work) half a day, came home and worked out, and then got ready and went to enjoy my Friday-evening. Dinner at a mediterranean restaurant where I drove the waiter a little nuts with my questions on how myriad things were cooked, and then asking for special requests ("Can I have the feta on the side in my Greek Salad?", "Can you find out how this pita was cooked in the flat-bread style?", etc. etc.)...For a second he really worried me when he said the yogurt-cucumbur dressing was very heavy! How can that be???! And why do I know about this AFTER I've devoured it to the last drop!? I sent him back to find out the dressing-contents from the chef..and he came back to report "I was safe"..after this, we joked about my OCD-ness over food contents and choices, and he nicely played along indulging my questions...my friend and dinner-partner was great in putting up with this new-found obsessivenss on my part too (In fact, we had to look at many menus to settle for this place for dinner in the first place! She complied coz I'd have bailed on dinner and just had it at home, if I didn't have healthy choices outside).

Anyway, long story short (hmmm..too late, why do people say this when the story has become already long!)..Selected relatively healthy choices on the menu, and skipped dessert and drinks. Had ordered spanakopita as an appetizer to share as it was baked--not fried--but then cancelled it and settled for the lentil soup. Had greek salad to make up for the lack of veggies today, and thought I had several points left to be able to enjoy the full-fat feta. Dressing was yogurt-cucumber, so presumably low-fat. The pita wasn't whole-wheat, unfortunately, and was probably sprayed with oil and baked to make it flat-bread style, but oh well! I had ordered a side of spinach curry, but just had 2-3 spoonfulls, as it looked a little oily (very yummy, but safer to skip I thought). Eyed my friend's baklava but wasn't tempted...the wines looked good, but thought I'd save some points for possibly a drink at the next stop. Didn't have hummus, falafel, or their famous flambeed-cheese, and definitely didn't have the fried appetizers!Didn't even THINK of indulging in those!

Went next to a bar where a friend's band was playing, and the music was good, so I had to have a drink, and I know tomorrow's weigh-in, and I'll probably pay for this, but I had my fav. beer (1 bottle)--and it was worth it!
So to quote Evelyn, "That's the kind of day it was".....It's 2.30 am, and I'm too wired to fall asleep, and hence this late-night hanging out on FS.

Um, I just wrote a War and Peace sized comment on your last journal, b/c, I got mixed up and thought it was the most recent. Make sure you click back and read yesterday's news! BTW, I think you did well at the restaurant/bar. Hope you had a fun night :D

Your Yoda comment is funny :D And the SB thing is almost the same as I'm doing now, basically just not eating fruit for two weeks. I need to live it to understand it and satisfy my curiosity. It's like a participant observation study or ethnography and I want to be a Low-Carb Margaret Mead. When I briefly 'did' Weight Watchers I became fluent in the lingo and now I can follow the lunch table conversation at work and not feel lost. Eating quinoa, soy, and ground flax helps me understand the Vegan across the hall. I'm intrigued. This stuff facinates me.

Your dinner sounded very healthy and it was definitely worth the effort to ask all those questions. I hope the beer didn't cause any undue bloating (I had to learn that lesson the hard way!).
