Just a quick 1.5 mile walk with doggies this AM and then some bedroom furniture moving in advance of going to the thrift store this afternoon.

I'm having second thoughts about the color of paint, so I stopped by and picked up 2 samples of the colors on my way home from the thrift shop. They're both painted on some cardboard now and propped up in the bedroom to see which is better.

At the thrift store today, I felt very sad for one of our donors. He drove up and asked for assistance bringing his donation in, so I was one of a couple of us, who went out to help. There, in the HUGE trunk of his car, this elderly gentleman had layer upon layer of women's clothing, so that it filled the trunk completely....all very nice clothing, cleaned and pressed, and hung carefully on hangers: sweaters, blouses, shirts, robes and nightgowns, and loungewear. We brought the items in, each of us having to make several trips, there was so much. He stood by and watched.

I think we all knew the probable cause for his donation. No one dared ask. It was hard to know what to say, so I just remarked how nice the clothing was, how someone must have taken very good care of these things, and I made sure I was careful and reverent in the way I handled the items.....what else could I do? He was thanked by many of us. He told us he had brought in all the shoes last week and had more clothing items to bring in....maybe next week.

Oh Sandy. What a sad story and how sweet you all were to help the man. I have to say, I just read your profile. GIRL... you got it going on! I have been playing at losing while you have been working on it. BRAVO! It helped me. Thanks! Hugs!!!

That was sad, but I trust it is going to a good cause. Most of my Dad's stuff was still in the house when my Mom passed 10 years after.

You handled it beautifully but how sad. Sigh. Life can be difficult, can't it?

It is true, a very sad story indeed, but I think you handled the situation appropriately. If he wanted to talk about it I think you would have known. I am thinking it gave him some peace of mind knowing that her things were being put to good use.

M2B, thanks. Things just click for each of us at different times. I just wished everything had clicked for me at a younger age! But, better late than never, right?

Buffy, seems like people handle things in their own way and in their own time when there's a death in the family. I suspect your dad's things still being there gave your mom a great deal of comfort.

Isabel, it was sad, but when I commented to the guy how I hoped he had had some help with these things, he brightened up, smiled, and said, oh yes, a few friends had come over to help. That made me feel good, as I couldn't imagine how difficult it would have been for him to have washed and pressed all these things, getting them all arranged so carefully, etc. I'm sure it was hard enough, but would have been even more so if he had done it all alone.

GG, he did seem to have a determination of purpose about him when he came in to donate. He would have been surprised at how many items had already been purchased by others just that afternoon! And, of course, all monies received go to various charities and service organizations in our area, helping children, the disabled, the abused, various outreach agencies, and the food banks.
