Beautiful, clear blue skies this morning both going to, and coming from church. Such deception...Hurricane Isaac could be here in about 60 hours!

Good news in that I saw the gas station nearest my home had been refilled and so there was a line of cars waiting to get filled up there this morning. Wonder if they'll run out again later today....

Our neighbor stopped by yesterday and gave us some of his hurricane preparation tips. Some we've heard before, some we haven't. DH is still thinking we're NOT putting up the plywood on the windows. It would be a lot of work because we've never done it before and we're not certain what wood goes on what window because they're not marked in any way. Of course, we could eventually figure it out, but DH isn't convinced it would do much good....not enough to justify the effort, I guess. I'm on the fence about it. I've only gone through a Cat 4/5 hurricane and the place I was in had NO window protection, except for the masking tape I put on each window....didn't know why, just followed general advice.

When I went through Hurricane Hugo in Charleston, DH was on duty halfway across the country so he missed out on all the fun! I had moved there and found a place for us. DH would eventually see the house for the first time with a huge pile of fallen tree debris all across the front porch and lawn and a big blue tarp on the roof with a huge tree trunk still lying in the attic...welcome home!). We had never lived in a place affected by hurricanes, so I went through Hugo after having been there for just a couple weeks. I followed all the tips from the people I had met, not really knowing why I should be doing those things or if those items were really important.

While Isaac shouldn't be a Cat 4 storm (it BETTER not be...), I just don't know how extensive our prep needs to be. We're really fortunate to have a large generator so we should be able to do a lot more and stay more comfortable than my experience with Hugo. Just have to hope and pray the trees all around us stay upright.

Deceptive skies indeed! I have no hurricane tips for you - am sure you two will use your heads and stay safe. But what on earth will you do with that dog of yours? Got any tranquillizers?

I wish.... My Collie went thru a hurricane while in rescue, just prior to us getting him, so he does OK with Rescue Remedy (no connection with a dog rescue). However, he's been picking up on my Lab's uneasiness and is getting a bit more unsettled with each passing storm. He can't take her medication due to a genetic thing, so RR is the best I can do for him. For her, however, I'll dose her a few hours in advance of the storm, as best I can determine, and I'll keep her on the meds until it's over. I may also give her some melatonin, as that's safe with the meds. She still won't be calm, by any means, but it's the best I've got. Wish she were like my first dog that went thru Hugo with me....I think she SLEPT thru most of it, even when the house started shaking!
