Question: What are good "walking" shoes for overweight people? I've been trying to walk but I either have screwed up my foot or I've had Gout and Morton's Neuroma for over a month. At least that is what WedMd suggests. I had been wearing Sketcher Shape Ups until about a year ago when they said they were screwing up peoples feet. I was walking somewhat on the outside of my foot. Now, I've moved on to the "Go Walks" by Sketchers...but now I'm thinking I need some type of decent arch support. Any ideas?

I wear New Balance and so does my hubby. I find they have a good variety of styles and arch supports. We have New Balance stores here in Ontario and all of the stores have really knowledgeable sales people and they usually are able to find some amazing shoes that fit well.

New Balance Rocks! Even on days where I have worn bad shoes, and my feet really hurt, when I put on my new balance and get ready for a workout, it's like having brand new feet. Highly recommended!

OH Yes, I agree on New Balance. In fact, I read that walking shoes are the WORST for us cause they design them for pronators which is why we start walking on the sides of our feet. They say it is best to buy running shoes for walking as they are better designed for foot function. I wear Women's running shoes model 1140. New Balance comes in widths as well as different shapes! Check out their website for the information: NewBalance.com

I wear a size 12 now - I think being heavy increased my foot size from a 11 so I can't just go to any store to buy women's shoes. I found a jogging/running shoe store and the store owner measured me after he watched how I walked. He then brought out a shoe by Brooks that works wonders for me. I do not pronate or whatever but I have such a high arch that my footprint is in 2 sections. :) The Brooks were cheaper than my normal Asics so that made me happy and I now have 2 pair of Brooks. One pair is an all weather so I can go out on the snowy sidewalks. I think having an expert fitting really helped.
