Day 199- WARNING DEEP ONE- So last journal I brought up my BMI and one of the comments left by a good buddy was along the lines that BMI, does not mean much and is unrealistic, and I have to say I agree to an extent….. Have you studied how the BMI numbers were developed? If not I suggest you do some research and see how they came up with them. What I will tell you is they were established a long time ago when humans ate differently. There were not any McDonalds, tv dinners, pop tarts, protein shakes, ‘diet’ foods, low fat foods, modern wheat… etc. I think these foods have lot to do with why today us and our kids cannot maintain an average BMI. Yes, it is part of the evolution of humans, but do we want to evolve into humans that have to rely on non-natural things (meds and other fake crap) to keep our species going? We eat stuff our bodies can’t handle, so our body has unhealthy reactions and we try to solve it by putting a ‘band aid’ on it and move on. It is just like the garden hose that springs leak and you patch it with duct tape, it hold for awhile, but another leak forms and you add more tape. At some point you won’t be able to add anymore tape and the hose is shot!

So every time you read about ‘being healthy’ there is some talk of diabetes and how WE NEED TO FIND A CURE FOR IT! We raise millions/billions of dollars every year to find a cure, when in my opinion the cure is staring right at us!!!!!! STOP EATING CRAPPY FOOD!!!! STOP EATING PROCESSED FOODS!!! STOP EATING WHEAT/CORN PRODUCTS FROM GMO SEEDS! Why do you think the number of cases of diabetes keeps going up, when these folks are not born with it? We need to rise up and take charge of the food world and tell them we want real food. A few years back, I hoped when they did my blood work that they would tell me I had diabetes so I would have an answer to why I felt like crap all the time. (Please note: I know there are some out there that diabetes is something they can not avoid and yes I wish we could find a cure for them.)

A cure for diabetes would be amazing - but, as you say, better that no one eats the crap that causes it!

Amen! Your exhortation to eat real food also applies to diet foods: I think whole foods can help people achieve a healthy weight far better than shakes and bars!!!

It drives me nuts to see my FIL who has diabetes still eating junk! He's overweight, has diabetes, eats crap, then wonders why he feels terrible and why he can't lose any weight. You are so right, those who are getting diabetes from weight issues don't need a cure, they need the kick in the butt to stop eating junk and get out and move. I've seen people who get the diabetes diagnosis and use it as motivation to get healthy, and they do it, and others who just don't care because they don't think they can get healthy. This site proves that people can get healthy!
