Over the last week or so I've received dozens of encouraging messages regarding my mysterious weight gain. Thank you, you inspired me to stop sulking and get working.
As you may already know I'm on KETO and adhere to a strict “20 or less carbs” per day. I attribute my 75 pound weight loss and health transformation to the KETO lifestyle change. So when I gained 10 pounds in one week, my moral was devastated. Weight gain on a strict KETO diet? Only me, I thought!
My wife noticed I was being distant and withdrawn and asked if she could help? I reluctantly told her the bad news about the weight gain. Her, being the wonderful person she is, was very supportive and suggested we examine each and every item, new and old, that I had eating during the previous 3 or 4 weeks.
We checked all the items and found that the only new product I was eating was Land O'Lakes Sugar Free Heavy Whipped Cream. I'm always trying to reduce my carbs in non-essential food items, so this was a great choice, so I thought! It was, at best, okay. I thought I could get used to it, especially knowing it had zero carbs.
After a couple weeks it still wasn't my favorite, but I thought I'd just use it in my coffee as creamer. The next weigh-in I found that I was 9 pounds heavier. The next day I gained an additional pound, totaling a 10 pound weight gain in one week.
I thought there had to be some hidden sugar, but I was wrong. I looked at the other ingredients, Sorbitan Monostearate (can cause edema) and Carrageenan (can cause inflammation). I noticed I had more pain in my joints and that my ankles were swollen, so I stopped using it on Monday July 9th.
I am glad to say that as of today Saturday July 14th my ankles have returned to their normal size, I don't have as much pain in my joints and I've lost 9 of the 10 pounds I gained.
I don't know if this is all just coincidence or whether or not I had an allergic reaction to one or more of the ingredients. But I know that not eating the whipped cream is working and the weight is coming off.
