geo99's Journal, 02 May 2010

I am amazed at how much food you can actually eat when you know about calories and control what you eat. By using weight watchers bread, using turkey bacon instead of real bacon, etc , it is possible to eat a large meal for 400-500 calories. So many people complain about starving themselves or say they can't succeed because they don't like salad just have to do some learning, making changes and watching the weight come off. I wish I would have taken the time to learn this stuff years ago.

Hey Geo99, you are really doing well. Congratulations. I, too, am learning new things (that I wish I knew long ago) everyday. With knowledge comes success!

I know what you mean. I cheated myself out of some good potentially healthy years. But, we won't any longer - we are getting healthy Geo!!

You're right Geo. 90% of the journey is educating ourselves. I feel bad when I hear people saying things that I know are wrong or false information or wives tales in regard to losing weight. If I'm close to the person I will try to give them better information or point them to websites with good solid information about diet, health, nutrition. But at the same time, I realize that I have spent countless hours.. upon more countless hours... reading, researching, logging, watching relative television programming, etc. to learn what I needed to learn and to just keep my head in the game. Some of that just keeps you focused and motivated. While I can share some of what I've learned with others, unless I make that a career, there are not enough hours in the day to share everything I've learned with them. At some point, each one of us has to want to be successful badly enough to put in the kind of effort and hours that it takes to gain the knowledge we need. I don't say that to be cold or callous AT ALL... just making the point I guess that we should recognize and appreciate all the effort we put into this and not be afraid to be really "real" with others who seek our advice in telling them that they will do better if they are willing to seek out an understanding of what they need to do and why, rather than just blindly following the instructions of any particular diet. I continue to learn more every day!
