Eringiffin's Journal, 05 August 2012

I've been frustrated with my diet lately. Not only has it become harder to lose weight, the visual changes have diminished as well. At first, when I was losing weight, it seemed like every new week I was noticing something changing like, a thinner looking face, smaller tummy, my rings and bracelets fit nicer, a smaller size in clothes, etc. But even though I am still losing weight, it seems like it takes longer and longer to get that "fix". It's really hard to stick to your guns when the rewards taper off. I just keep thinking that if I falter now, it will take even LONGER to see any benefits. What was that saying about how when the going gets tough...?

Yes, the less you have to lose the harder it is, it's the law of diminishing returns. So far I've gotten thru it my reminding myself that this is a permanent change so even if I don't lose any weight at all I still have to follow the plan or end up back where I was.

Yes - fatoldlady is so right! I started to do better when I changed my attitude toward things and accepted the point is to be more healthy, not just lose weight. So, I exercise and eat well to help myself feel better, and weight loss is the benefit!

I am so glad to be starting the "Every Day is a New Start" challenge. Focusing on the positives really does improve my outlook and determination. I am grateful for my FS friends more than ever! Today the hubby had popcorn WITH BUTTER at the theater and then had cheesecake and I didn't cheat! I couldn't do it without you guys. The worst part is that tomorrow he will have lost 2 lbs. and I will still be standing on the scale scratching my head and screaming WTF!?, lol.

The "honeymoon" phase of dieting is over. Now you have to deal with the regular "marriage", lol. Find ways to keep motivation. Read fitness magazines. Buy new workout dvds. Take new exercise classes or some class you have always wanted. Make an inspiration board with pictures, recipes quotes that inspire you. Anything to help keep you on track. The closer to goal, the harder it may become. Good luck!

To Fatoldlady: "Law of diminishing returns" is a great choice of words which definitely can be taken both ways. Thanks for the chuckle.
