A morning of calculations.

At my overall average rate of weight loss I will hit my goal on or about Valentine's Day, 2014. Since the health of my heart has been my primary motivation, I guess this is synchronicity. At my more recent rate of weight loss, since changing to Atkins, I will hit my goal on or about my husband's birthday (60th!) in October of 2013. Another nice association, since being around for the people I love is also good motivation. Obviously pinpointing this kind of a date is next to impossible, but I guess it helps me wrap my head around the fact, which I knew, that this is a long term project.

I also spent some time calculating my BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate) using two different formulae.

1) The Katch McArdle BMR calculation which relies on lean body mass to make the calculation. This came up with a number of 3254.

2) The Harris Benedict BMR formula which takes into account height, weight and age. This one gave me an answer of 1967.

That is a HUGH difference! More than a thousand calories. I guess it goes to show, all of these calculations are just estimates at best. If I average the two together, I get 2610 calories. If I factor in my activity level, I calculate 3133 to 3590, depending on the day. This number is about 500 to 800 below the numbers I end up with using FS calculations. Even so, I am comfortably below these numbers, day to day, in what I consume.

Don't know what if anything I really learned from all this, but it was kind of interesting to do.

I agree BMR calculations are SO tricky. That's why I'm sticking to what I can prove based on my own calculations from tracking everything.
