I shouldn't judge mannequins solely based on their looks, but they are not my friends.

The local malls open three hours before the stores to provide a gathering place for groups and individuals to exercise. That's where my hubby and I have been walking since it started to get hotter. (I know I'm spoiled by our weather and many would disagree with our definition of "hot.")

Our route is three full floors, including a rather large food court, which has become one of my favorite areas. I enjoy the succulent aromas and pause to read the menus (and mentally say "Not today, not tomorrow, but maybe someday," although I read in a diet book it's not necessary to "sample" or "steal a taste" since we've tasted most foods and our memories are just fine).

Am I a masochist? I think not. I enjoy the fragrance of nice cologne on people. That doesn't mean I want to taste them or eat them. At least I haven't gotten that hungry on my diet yet.

What started today's random thoughts? Oh, the mannequins. Yes, they are not my friends. What size are they anyway? Size 1? Size 0? Size 00? They look anorexic, not to mention how intimidating it is to pass by the gauntlet of these plastic forms to enter the stores.

I suppose a measure of how well my self-image has kept up with my scale is when I no longer pause to look at the minority group of bigger mannequins, you know, the ones in front of Lane Bryant, to see what's new in the store.

Perhaps one day I'll be size-blind when it comes to plastic people as I am with real ones. After all, I don't select my friends based on size or color. But not today, not tomorrow, but maybe someday.
