Sometimes I wish we didn't have a house & the upkeep. Long story short, with all dry, hot weather we've had noticed foundation pulling away from ground outside, and DH noticed some cracks in our basement. Called the foundation person who did our piers under our crawl space, well guess what he found more cracks in the basement area of house. Measured our entire basement and couple of walls have settled only about 1", but will get worse over time if we don't do something now to stop it.

So now we are going to have installed 13 piers in our basement area, sometime in the next 2 months. At least we caught this early before the settling got worse & we start to have cracks in the sheet rock in other areas of our house, plus doors that don't shut... So the good side to this situation is we found it early & even though expensive, better to do now than turn a blind eye and let go & get worse over time.

So I guess there's some good to this story :) Oh well, it's only money and we can't take it with us, right !

Gosh, wish there were an easier, less expensive answer for you. It IS good you saw the settling in its early stages before the job gets even bigger. With all that excessive heat and drought in the Central Plains, I'm sure you won't be the only one having issues like this.

It is less expensive now than to have to do the same fix later and fix cracked sheet rock or other fixes that come with the settling. It seems like when you have a house there's always something that you need to put money in to. Good luck!!

When you own a home there is always something! But at least you'll get it fixed - try getting a landlord to install those piers.
