DaisyInTexas's Journal, 10 December 2011

I'm taking a big step. I'm going public. It's a scary thing to share the struggle to lose weight. I starting gaining weight when I was 21. I remember I had to have my wedding dress let out a little. I gained weight BEFORE the wedding, when most girls lose it. What was THAT about.

My highest ever wieght was 336 pounds. I dropped down to 320 pounds and joined FatSecret at 319 pounds. Somehow I changed my start weight on FatSecret to 310 pounds. Not sure how that happened. I'm now down to 255 pounds. That happened this week. That's a total of 81 pounds lost!

Things I can do now that I have lost 81 pounds:

Tie my own shoes, put on my socks, try on shoes at a store.
Bend over and pick things up off the floor.
Go up the stairs without dying.
My job.
Walk all around the mall with my kids without pooping out.
Look in the mirror and like my new emerging face.
See my cheek bones and collar bones.
Fit in a size 2X down from a 5X.
Wear normal sized watches and bracelets.
See the bones in the top of my hand.
Put on panty-hose if a have too.
Lean over the sink to wash my face instead of having to prop myself up.
Climb up on a step stool without fear of it breaking.
Sit in chairs without fear of them breaking.

Surprising benefits:

My child putting her hands all the way around me!
My hubby hugging me tight with his arms all the way around me!
Having way more energy.
Getting my lap back.
Inspiring others.

Medical benefits so far:

Off diabetes medicine.
Off blood pressure medicine.
Off cholesterol medicine.
Resting heart rate down to 45.

Comments people have made to me:

You look happy.
You smile more.
You look younger.
You have lost the weight of a child!
How are you doing it? (This one I'm asked A LOT)

My incentive goal:

Visting my friend in California this summer and being able to fit in an airplane seat!

My biggest tips:

Eat breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Eat light Monday-Thursday, 1200-1500 calories a day.
Eat 1500-2000 calories on Friday and the weekends. Allows eating out.
Get the nutritional charts from your favorite restaurants and pick out your order before you go.
Have some favorite snack foods you can eat without guilt. Mine are sugar free jello cups (10 cals each), carrots with hummus, and sugar free lifesaver wintergreen mints, sugar free lifesavers and sugar free jolly ranchers.

Distract yourself when you think of food. I log onto FatSecret, read a book, check for free apps for my phone, play Words with Friends - I'm addicted to that one, go to Luminosity.com and enhance my brain, walk the dog, go to my mom's, call my friend, and when all else fails, have one of my guilt free snacks.

I count only calories, don't care about the rest. If I want a piece of cake, I have it. I just include it in my calorie count.

I hope you join me on my wieght loss journey. I think sharing with others helps me. I still want to loose about 105 pounds, down to 150.

Mary
