I wonder why does it take a calorie deficit of 350 a day to lose a pound in 7 days but only 350 extra calories in a day to gain 2 pounds in 1 day?

💦💧🌊🚰⛲️ I’m going to say it has to do with water retention in most cases. Water weight fluctuates quite easily. After a heavy carb day, I can easily gain 10 lbs that’ll last about a week or so. Fat and muscle take much longer to increase or decrease.

Actually it is 500 cal deficit a day to lose a pound of fat (not body weight) just a formula and they are not accurate and yes just like Craig says it in the comments mostly they are water weights

thanks for the insights. My dietician told me today to weigh daily and then take an average of the weight for the week as current weight. Then the goal is to have the highs go down so that even when you put on a few lbs, that it is still trending downwards from previous highs. I'm gonna try that and see if it motivates me.

If it’s helpful, https://trendweight.com/ is a handy free tool that can automatically sync with some devices and automatically update so you don’t have to think about it…or even look at it. Happy Scale is another similar app that might be helpful, if you’re interested. 😎
