Happy Monday! My day has definitely been that. A Monday! UGH!!

Anyway, just thought I would share a funny. I've been walking twice a day (most days) for over 4 months now. I decided I wanted to get my arms in the mix and since it's hot as Hades down here in Texas, wanted something that I could do indoors. So...I bought an elliptical.

Oh. My. Good. Gosh!

I can barely go 15 minutes on that thing and that's with stopping numerous times to catch my breath. What tha?

I'm so not even near where I thought I was.

Anyway....just thought I would share. Carry on ....

Oh, oh, oh ! I know JUST what you mean. I could walk forever and thought I was doing fine and then I joined a Crossfit gym and OMG ! I couldn't do anything. They have a word for it. Adaptation. Like our bodies adapt to what we ask of them and then when you try something new, even using a slightly different set of muscles, yikes! The elliptical will get easier.

I certainly hope so. I look like an idiot on that thing. Sweaty and out of breath doesn't even describe what I look like on that. Thank goodness it is indoors! :)

You WILL get there . . . sounds like you're off to a much more impressive start than I was with when I first started trying to jog again -- I was brisk walking daily in the AMs, but I BARELY jogged 1/2 lap (1/8 mile) on my first attempt before stopping to walk!! I'm only jog/walking about 3x/week and just 3-4 weeks later, I'm almost up to 3/4 of a mile (also in Southern heat/humidity, so I can unfortunately relate)!

It might seem impossible to add a few more minutes, but challenge yourself each time. I felt I could walk forever, but my first time in the elliptical my lungs and heart could only stand it for 8 minutes (I was a smoker too). I went back for one extra minute next day and so on... a few months later I was doing one hour medium/high intervals. Don't let it defeat you, stick to the challenge!

An elliptical is a whole different skill set and can be very tough at first. I am a decent runner but I stink at the elliptical. Like the others said take it slow and build up. The good news its relatively low impact and you will recover quickly as well as be able to watch tv while doing it lol. A friend of mine dropped one off last week that's much nicer than mine ( yeah what's up with everyone dumping machines they hate at my house?) and I am hating it as well.

I also walk 2x a day .. once in the am in the park then at gym when Im not doing weights and i cant take more then 5 min on the elliptical with out wanting to die. So i got some cute little 5lbs hand weights I use instead on the treadmill or park. I used to do it alot a few years ago and can say it does get easier with time. Start off with no hands then add them in little by little.. Im in Texas too.. and its super hot... if i do not get my walk in before 8am then I dont walk at all till I go to the gym.

Haha, I am right there with you in Hades (North TX here) LOL It certainly has been brutal temperatures! Grats on the elliptical! When I first tried one I could barely do 2 minutes so you are WAY better than me :)

Ellipticals kill my knees and hips so i never use them. I prefer a recumbant bike and push my heart rate up on there then trading off days on working different muscle groups in the weight room. I am not hitting the gym until the reno is done though this is how i approached it in the past.

Oh trust me, I probably stop about 10 times during that 15 minutes, lol! This thing is gonna be the death of me.

I do elliptical all the time - and it takes getting used to but you will gain strength over time!

that machine is the devil. yuck.

Personally I think the elliptical is an evil machine invented by a mad scientist vying for world dominion!

I bought a Gold's Gym Stridetrainer 380 Elliptical Trainer. And y'all are right...it IS the devil. I went outside and mowed and weedeated the yard last night instead of getting on it, lol!

Don't give up on it then it just becomes an expensive coat rack, junk catcher. If you did 15 minutes before do 17 today 19 tomorrow then more and more and before you know it you will be at 45 minutes or so.

I'm not giving up. I WILL beat this thing. I just needed a break last night and the yard needing mowing, so.....there ya go! :)
