Sdbai3's Journal, 29 June 2015

So, I went to the Dr. last Thursday for my 3-month checkup. Last time I went in, I was diagnosed with diabetes with a A1C level of 12.1 (that's not a typo. It was 12.1!)

I have been working very hard since that phone call three months ago. I was basically living off of sugar. Sweet tea, coffee with sugar, sodas (oh how I love root beer) Sonic Blue Coconut Slushes, pasta, potatoes, and the list goes on and on. Since the phone call I have not had one soda, no pasta or potatoes or white bread, no sugar (except natural sugar in fruit) and cut WAY back on my carbs. I've also started walking about 5 miles a day, breaking it up between morning and evening walks. I was supposed to be checking my blood sugar every day, but didn't want to stick myself everyday and refused to do that.

I dropped 35 pounds in those three months. But the best part is the fact that my A1C level dropped from 12.1 to 5.7!!!!! Whoop!!! When he checked my blood sugar in the office, it was 90. I am SO excited!!! The doctor had guestimated my A1C to have dropped to 7. Ha! Showed him. He won't however, let me reduce my meds until I check my blood sugar every day so he can see a pattern. Sigh.....so, I am checking it each day now. Dang rebellion gets me every time! :)

I celebrated that day by buying new clothes and discovering that I am now in a size 16 in pants. WHAT!!!!???? I haven't been a 16 since right before I had my first child and she's 27.

God is SO good y'all! He is helping me so much with this. I sure can't do it on my own. My goal was to drop 30 by the time I went back and I exceeded that goal. My next goal is to drop another 30 by the time I go back in September. I told him I wanted to lose 60 more and he told me that was too much, but I'm going to do it anyway. (Did I mention I am rebellious??)

Have a great day everybody and let's keep working hard. We got this!

That's wonderful! I wasn't diagnosed with diabetes, but my triglycerides are high, cholesterol is high, and my mom is/grandmother was diabetic. About three months ago, I cut out all processed sugar, bread/pasta/rice--very similar list to yours. I've lost 31 pounds so far and feel great. I can't wait to see what my blood work says next time! You've done terrific! You should be very proud of yourself. Enjoy your new clothes!
