writingwyo's Journal, 22 December 2022

The temperature here dropped 20 degrees in one hour here yesterday afternoon 😳 It was 21 below when I woke up. Haven't checked this morning to see if the interstates are closed this morning, but the entire state was pretty much closed down last evening.

Mercifully, I was given permission to telework today. My car doesn't handle the cold well. I'm less afraid of it not starting on the way to work than for the trip home.

Missed the office holiday party Tuesday, but there were a lot of leftover treats in the breakroom yesterday when I went in. Passed on all except a small orange (cutie) and a cup and a half of popcorn, plus a reasonable amount of the candy a sweet coworker left on my desk. Not bad. Considerably less than I would have eaten before I started all this

Writingwyo, What I'm hearing is 'oh it's safe here and if I'm in distress someone will see/hear that I need help' as the cold sets in ...right? no....

Nope, LivinBreezy, I don't consider it safe ❤️ It's more like it's less unsafe than if I were one of the folks out in the sticks driving down some of our long, lonely Wyoming roads. Still not something I'll go out in unless I would absolutely have to do it. A friend described our weather as "violent," and that describes it. We have highway closures frequently out here. I have a very healthy respect for weather and road dangers

Writingwyo 😊 Recently a 'day hiker' didn't take her survival gear (a small backpack) and froze to death! A few years ago I found a couple with children who didn't even know how to use their 'survival pack' that they bought to save them in case of emergency (they were blue ... I thought they were all dead) it was right in the front seat and they didn't even know how to use it!!! BTW, they were only a mile from their home!!! Please, hear me. Know how to use your safety equipment ❣️

Don't worry 😊 We have a MORE than healthy respect for the weather here. My husband always has coats, etc, galore stashed in the trunk. You wouldn't believe how warmly I dress just to drive to the office on frigid days. There's no "oh, I'm only outside from the parking lot to the door" nonsense. If it's zero degrees out, I dress for zero degrees. If at all possible, we stay home when weather and roads are bad. Unfortunately, we don't always get a choice in the matter. I do hear you, and am grateful for your concern 🤗❤️ I'll stay as safe as I realistically can, living in this climate
