… idk that gallbladder episodes could be triggered by high fat diets!

I’ve been following a high fat way for some time (here’s looking at you bulletproof coffee), and having had the excruciating pain of a gallbladder attack for 5 hours has made me jumpy about my fat macros.

If you’ve experienced one of these gallstone attacks, this will probably resonate. I’ve had 3 attacks over the last two months or so, and it’s almost that I’m too afraid to eat, and this is not helping my anxiety and low moods.

Needless to say, just hanging on to my sanity has taken on greater importance than weight loss. tbh I’m struggling a bit

I had my gallbladder removed at the young age of 27… the attacks felt like heart attacks. The worst pain ever. I’m sorry you’re going through this Tamplyn. Have you been for an ultrasound? Is it a huge gallstone or tiny ones? I had tiny ones filled in mine and had to remove my gallbladder because one was blocking the gallbladder duct and eating a low fat diet wasn’t helping me. I would still get reflux attacks. It’s an outpatient procedure. And back then I was 55kgs so I was good after a week. And went overseas with stitches and all. My stomach had to get use to digesting without a gallbladder… would go to the loo every time I ate. But with time you go back to normal.

Thanks Fatgirlslim1982 - I’ve not been for an ultrasound, so it’s sorta self diagnosed. But reading and speaking to others with the condition point towards this. I’m doing a bit like the ostrich at the mo, hoping it will just disappear. But also knowing it won’t 🥸

I’m not a doctor Tamplyn, but what I’ve heard… go to see one. People have died from gallbladder bursting. Best to get a professional opinion. You get people saying oh you can flush the stones out… rubbish. Unless they have proof of their gallbladder being full of stones and then another ultrasound of no gallstones in their gallbladder. Then I will believe it. Get a professional opinion or 3. It’s not something to play with. There are people that have lived a ripe old age with no gallbladder. Just like the appendix. They will probably take blood as well to test for white blood cells. See if you have an infection as well.

i had a big one. the attacks are terrible. Rather have it taken out. I haven't had any problems after that and its been 3 years. I can eat anything without any issues

I had severe gallbladder attacks and subsequently had mine removed. The typical profile for the condition is “fat, fair, forty and fertile” - if you fall into these categories then you are at risk. Give away symptoms include waking up between 0200-0300am with nausea, general nausea and a pain in the right shoulder. I hope that helps. It is a high risk surgery but it changed my life - go see a doc! All the best!

Had mine removed years ago, way pre Keto but totally the best thing I could have done. Those attacks are insane

PS: definitely go for a scan, mine looked like a deflated balloon and was FULL of stones. The Dr kept them to show me after the surgery, they were massive (and gross)

You need to see a doctor and get tests done. They will do a differential diagnosis as gallbladder symptoms are fairly similar to many other issues. To find the exact problem, you need to get your tests done. And also, if it is gallstones, then depending on your situation they will decide if you need a diet change, if cholesterol medication will help your situation or if you need surgery And please don’t have butter in your coffee 😳.
