It appears that my vacation and being a little lax in my diet was good for my loss.

Prior to and while on vacation, I had been on an 11 - 13 day plateau. It was pretty disheartening.

Prior to leaving, I was very stringent in following my diet. While I was away, I had champagne, caffinated coffee, one Denny's meat lovers skillet including hashbrowns and english muffin, french fries at lunch one day, french fries and mashed potatoes at dinner one day. While away, I had no gains but also no losses.

Within 3 days of returning, I've lost 4 lbs. Now I figure one of two things.

Either my body became accustomed to the 500 - 750 calories I had been giving it. Maybe the increased calories I gave during vacation shocked my body into finally letting go of what it was saving,

Or- it was going to give it up anyway, but needed to adjust from the previous loss in a short amount of time.

I've lost 21 lbs in 38 days.

Any thoughts?

Amazing weight loss! I am a sometime devotee to the practice of calorie zigzagging, which is essentially what you describe. The object is the alternate your daily intake with highs and lows (the weekly total cals not to exceed your daily maximum x7) boosts your metabolism and weight loss will occur. I have noticed that when I do 600-800 days followed by a 1200 day followed my another low day, I can sometimes drop an extra pound that week. I do not follow it consistently so cannot say that is ALWAYS works for me. There are a few websites that explain it better than me. Whatever the reason-great results. Congratulations!
