Joshbear's Journal, 30 July 2008

Ok, so I gained some. I had a business trip to California last week and then went to the folks house for the weekend. Both really killed my workouts. As for California, my sleep was all messed up (coming from New York) and I didn't have the energy to work out. As for my parents, I was just having too much fun with my family to want to go to the gym for two hours. So, I have to suffer the consequences...a pound and a half.

Well, this week I have been better about the gym. I went both last night and tonight. I am planning on hitting it tonight, tomorrow and then again on the weekends. Have another business trip to Cali next week so I have to be better about working out.

Does anyone else travel for work? How do you handle eating out all the time?

Gosh, I don't travel, but I could only guess that if my work were footing the bill, I'd be eating some nice salads and fish and chicken ... but like I said, I've never traveled for work. Keep good snacks on hand, cheese sticks, nuts, veggies sticks, eggs (boiled), waters etc. I love a nice protein shake, but not sure about getting that on the road,... a light yogurt is great, too. ;) Good luck!!

When I travel for work I get them to put me in a serviced apartment instead of a hotel (when possible) so I can buy groceries and cook for myself most of the time. It also makes work travel less stressful and I don't get as tired. If that isn't possible I just tend to eat less...

I ate salads, Wendy's Chili, South Beach meals from grocery store, oatmeal, fruit, almonds, or just made wise choices from the menu wherever I ate. I would work out in the hotel gym or ask if there was a walking trail somewhere nearby and would go walk. Since I drove everywhere I went, I would often pack a cooler and take it with me.

I sometimes prefer menu choices over having to cook for a whole family...more options, a personal choice just for me that I don't have to cook. You'll get it figured out! Best wishes!

my hubby and I travel quite a bit for his job. We try to stick to the most natural foods, avoiding the processed stuff. Fruits, veggies, and lean cuts of meat or fish. WE also make a quick trip to the store once we arrive, for items such as fresh fruit, yogurt, cereal, nuts or breakfast bars suitable for our diet. When we would have to meet with company lawyers at a dinner house, we tried to stick to the natural foods, like freshly cut tossed salads, meat simply prepared, and veggies. We found that all the processed, extra sodium and nitrates and preservatives in their foods, we would feel so bloated and sick afterwards! "Stick to the basics", is my traveling motto!!!
