Ruhu's Journal, 31 January 2013

No power... Again! So, of course, I've already prayed the serenity prayer -- probably first of many today:)! Oh well, I'm getting out of Dodge tomo -- will have to check if SIL in Atlanta has power!

Another interesting lab day yesterday -- it's a little scary that I'm finding "my research" so intriguing -- think I need a life, or what?!? After having cottage cheese for dinner last night, I wasn't nauseous as with milk, but had indigestion & some heartburn, bloating, etc (sorry to bore you with the details, but this journal is doubling as my research journal too;). So, will consult with my health coach today to see what she thinks. Certainly felt better dairy free, but know the potential effects of having dairy if I find I can't/don't want to resist.

Traveling tomo through Tues, but will check in when I can. Luckily my lab is quite portable, so will be staying the course sugar, dairy & wheat free while I'm away. (I wonder if lab rats have to fly in the cargo area?!?). And will be starting each day with the serenity prayer as today, and praying, breathing, logging & posting when possible, & expressing each one day, meal, moment, bite & emotion at a time. Have a great weekend my FS friends! Xoxox

(P.S. Have to also comment, as it just came to me how anxious I had been in the past about traveling, i.e. what would I eat/overeat, would I have cravings/want to binge, could I get exercise, etc. But today, feeling no anxiety at all, so know that staying the course is working for me, especially because of all you wonderful, supportive friends here!)

Interesting and telling results Ruth! I have found the same with dairy and like you couldn't imagine life without it - but now with so many alternatives - almond (tasty but acquired taste in the likes of tea and coffee), rice, soya (nice yoghurt) and oat (milk and cream) - cheese all I can now say is blah! I can't stand even the smell of it! The only thing I will sacrifice the tummy problems for is cheesecake - but only about 3 times a year!

Hey Ruth our corporate office in downtown Atlanta has power so hopefully SIL should. Sounds like a dairy intolerance but glad you know now. I hope you have a great trip and find some sunshine.

Did you see my note of yesterday? Try a piece of aged hard cheese for your next serving. If it doesn't sit well, then you'll know you have an allergy to dairy protein (instead of lactose intolerance).

I am so glad to hear that you are getting it figured out.

Thanks again all for the help & support! Buffy, I'll try some hard cheese next. I'm not really a big fan of the hard cheeses, though, so have you found any soft cheeses (goat, Gorgonzola, Brie) that are ok for you? And, triaby, I will miss yogurt, so will have to look for soya. Thanks again! Xoxox
