GlennM's Journal, 17 July 2010

OK except for extremely painful back. The pain meds caught up with me and I slept all evening. I guess I will be up all night, or much of it. And so I will try to write. I got invited to put one of my short stories in a newsletter, but I believe they're too long. I wrote a poem instead yesterday evening that came out quite well. I may try to write one poem a week or more to eventually publish poetry once I am published as an author. After writing books, poetry is a cinch almost it seems, and I haven't tried until yesterday. Anyway, my back is locked up between my hips at my lower spine area and it is painful to walk so I know the Cortisone shots will help on Monday. Dieting going well yesterday and today quite low calorie and I'm watching the carbs too. Back to the poetry, a lot of it is hard to comprehend what the writer is trying to tell, my poetry won't be that way it seems already and will be easy to read even if there are some difficult words in it since it will be as direct as I am.
Calorie Intake Friday July 16, 2010: 1380.
Vocabulary word for Saturday: Canuck -noun- a Canadian, especially a French Canadian, who are most common in Quebec. --------- Origin apparently from "Canada".

Hi Glenn. Thanks for comment in my journal. And I m from Bangladesh. Why its so difficult to get published in USA?Not much support for new writers? In Bangladesh life is good, the only thing is its a conservative muslim society.I'm back to diet.Strange thing is I always somehow get stuck at around 70kilo and can't progress further and lose focus. My MRCS final exam is very soon,so pray for me.You look so thin on your photo,I don't even understand why you need to diet :) Best of luck with publishing, diet and in general.I hope your back will be better soon.(What is your diagnosis?Steriods are addictive and have lots of side effects. Are you taking these injections often?)

Thanks lotus; I am tall - 6 foot 2 inches, so that is why I look thin. I was overweight in the past. My diagnosis is reactive arthritis since I was nineteen. The only symptom now is the arthritis, the other symptoms occurred upon the onset and occasionally over the years but abated to just arthritis at this stage. I am telling the doctor I don't want another Cortisone shot after Monday, I had one five months ago and yes, I figured it is not good over the long haul. I will have nerve blocking shots in the future instead. It is difficult to get published because not as many people read as say, forty years ago and publishers often want a 'shoe-in' for a blockbuster book, such as a celebrity who has a TV show or an actor or actress writing who will automatically have a fan base. Also, the economy is very bad and it has affected the book publishing industry also. I am an unknown person with no celebrity status so no one I have written to has even asked to read my work yet. America is quite liberal, and the conservatives politically are often phony in their own lives so I would say the country as a whole isn't much different from ancient Rome or ancient Greece - the stories I could tell about the stuff going on in my building would make you understand what I mean. I am liberal-minded generally but have a religious streak in me most people I know in America my age don't have - I am sure I will attend church much more in the future for example than I have recently. I will pray you pass your exams. Glad you are well Anita...
