i guess BMI is not a good indicator. Unfortunately body fat scales are inaccurate so how do we measure such an important health factor

Measuring with calipers done by a trainer is accurate. Or mostly. I have a set that I use myself. It’s not the same as the trainer but I can see if there is a change at least and can guesstimate based on the trainers measurements (I measured myself right after to see the difference and mine was 2-4% higher).

That’s for body fat though. I plug that into online calculators to get an idea of my BMI and BMR.

The most accurate way to measure body fat percentage is through DEXA scan. Another method is bioelectrical impedence.

@dshatz98 - I'm with you. Just bought a expensive new scale and it says I have a body fat between 5%-9%. There-is-no-way this is correct. The only 'scale' I can trust is looking in the mirror.

Yes, at 6 foot & 180, I am still considered overweight, they say we should be around 170. Tough weight level to maintain.

I have no idea how old you are based on your picture. I entered 50 (that's young to me). Anyway, based on that age and your weight, you were within the "normal" range.

Yes. One more way to find the ideal weight is: (Height in centimeters) - (100 ) = weight in Kilograms. For example: If your height is 180 cms, then subtract 100 from it. That gets 180 - 100 = 80 kg 80 kg is an ideal weight for you. Convert it into pounds by multiplying it by 2.204 80 x 2.204 = 176.32 pounds

80 x 2.204 = 176.32 lbs

I haven't weighed in at 170 since high school. Impossible at 54 years old.

Don't sell yourself short on what's possible! While you look slim you may still have fat cushioning your organs, what's called slim-fat. Fat around the organs is a real health hazard, particularly implicated in type 2 diabetes. You've come a long way, now go for the gold!

But if you're happy where you are, that's fine too. You do look great!

It's possible and you can do it as far as you can sustain. There is always a room for improvement. You are not that far from the target weight or improved target weight.

BMI is a bad indicator of health. It does not consider body composition, only height to weight ratio. Body fat% is what matters. You can take two people the same height and weight, one can be fat, one can be muscular and lean. Technically they have the same BMI, they will have completely different body fat % though. I have been a size 2 and a size 8 at the exact same weight. It depends on my muscle mass at the time. You look great. I would do some strength training to tone up if anything, but you don’t look overweight.

Ps. I have my body fat analysis done at the gym every few months with calipers. (Most accurate) I also have a body fat scale that is consistent but reads about 3-4% higher than the gym.
