My wife and I went to see the local fireworks last night, what a good show it was, they went all out. We had a great spot, right in front of the school where they were sent off, maybe 150 yards away from ground zero. The grand finale was amazing, seemed like we were engulfed in the fire bursts, pretty cool. It was even worth the hour wait once we got back to our car to get out of the parking lot.

Between yesterday and this morning I got my wines tended to, racked them off the sediments. The blackberry wine got it's initial taste, not bad considering it's still clearing and hasn't aged. It will do very nice blended with merlot, I'll just need to figure out the blend but that's several months away. The gewerztraminer and strawberry wines got re-energized with the siphoning activity and re-started a last gasp at fermentation, I'll need to rack them again once fermentation stops and they do some more clearing. The last batch I started last week was a peach and it didn't want to start fermentation despite a healthy dose of yeast and the proper nutrients. I added some of the yeast sludge that came off the gewerztraminer and that did the trick, it's bubbling nicely now. We'll let it go until Tuesday morning when I'll remove the fruit and rack to secondary fermentation.

Tonight my wife and I, along with my Mom and a couple friends from church are going to see Pirates of Penzance at the dinner theater. I've eaten light today and have over 1200 calories saved for dinner but I'll try to come in under that. Will have a glass of wine with dinner, maybe 2. Will stay away from starches at the buffet and go for leaner proteins, salad, veggies, but I have to partake of the spinach souffle which is divine. Looking forward to enjoying the evening. Hope everyone had a nice 4th yesterday.

The wine making sounds like a cool hobby. We have so many wineries "popping up" in our rural area here in the Midwest and recently we attended a wine tour. Some of the wines tasted awful. Like vinegar. Say! Great job pacing yourself with your calorie tally! Enjoy the show!

Wine making is a great hobby (I think anyway) that I get to share with friends and family. And I'm thinking of entering some in competition at the county fair although I might be too late for this year as I don't know what the procedures or deadlines are. And I don't have much left either, almost out which is why I'm making multiple batches at once.
