DairyKing's Journal, 10 July 2014

Good Morning, FS Warriors! OK, I lied. I didn't go running this morning. The spirit was willing, but the flesh was weak. I did indeed have every intention of running. The problem: I have awakened with this awful cramp (like a charley horse) in my right inner thigh for the last 2 nights. Usually, you associate charley horses and cramps with dehydration. Anyway, the pain is terrible when it happens, and it's not as easy to make go away, like a calf or foot cramp. So, I thought, "The race is on Saturday. If I have pulled something or other that is going to make me particularly susceptible to cramps, maybe I ought to lay low this morning, and give it a chance to heal." Cause I'm running Saturday one way or another. I had to taper down this week because of the race; maybe this is a blessing in disguise. I'll go out and do a couple real easy miles tomorrow, eat light - a little chicken alfredo - and maybe a banana and juice for breakfast and out the door at five and off to the races. When the race is over, Look out Hardees! There won't be a trophy; I'm already thinking of rewarding myself with a sausage, egg and cheese biscuit. Yeah, I know, boo hiss. Not to fear, I'll repent and be back on track by Monday morning.

I've got a haircut appointment tonight. I have always had a head full of thick hair. You would think that it would slow down or quit growing when I got into my 60's. Nah, the only thing that has changed is now I get to cut the hair out of my ears and nose as well. I do that myself though. LOL! People that go bald will spend thousands to get their hair back, while most guys that have a head of hair wonder what the big deal is. I guess I'd have to shave my head to see things from their perspective. Nah, not going to do that just yet.

One day till vacation starts. I'm ready. Actually, the 5K will kick off my vacation. Don't know how energetic I'll be when I get home from the race, but I'm betting I'll be all right. The grass is growing in leaps and bound. I mowed the church; now I have to mow mine. :) I'm excited about how the cabinets are going to look, so I'm going to build the drawers and doors and spray one of the cabinets to see what it looks like. Some of you that have been with me for a while know that DW picked out some lively bright green colors for these cabinets. She didn't want fine walnut, cheery or oak; she wants painted country cabinets. Happy wife, happy life! Granny Smith Green and Spring Leaf green. Think of the color of a Granny Smith apple. The two colors only have subtle differences in shade. The face frames will be one shade and the doors and drawers will be another. I'll post a pic when I get one of them completed. It won't be a masterpiece like the pens, just a cabinet. Just think though, I could have bought cabinets, painted them and been done a couple years ago. Projects, projects, projects. Loving it though.

Well, I don't want to make this too long; Ryan will be giving me flack. Here's hoping all my FS Friends have a wonamous day and a better day tomorrow. Toodles!

You MIGHT consisder contacting your doctor to make sure the leg pain isn't a blood clot!! Or something other than just a pulled muscle. Take care of yourself & good luck for your race on Saturday.

Ouch... I have to put a "ditto" to what Cindaian said. See a doc. We're up there, you know. Better safe then sorry. Then when he gives you an all clear, you can have a double treat at Hardee's after the race. So funny about the hairy nose and ears. Thank you for trimming them. Drives me nuts to see a man with a bumper drop of shoots protruding from the nostrils and ears. rofl

Geez, Cindaian! You can't get into the doctor in one day. Guess I'll have an excuse if I die during the race now, thanks! Haha. I could worry about it being a blood clot, but I've lived a good life, just pray it doesn't hurt too bad if it turns out to be one. I don't particularly like pain. I would hate to miss out on the Hardees biscuit though.

I'm sorry to hear you're hurting, DK, but you're last comment just cracked me up! Others are worried about a blood clot and your biggest concern is missing out on the Hardee's biscuit! lol I definitely hear ya though! If it were a blod clot, you might get put in the hospital and then you'd really miss that biscuit! My hubby shares your pain on the ear and nose hair. However, he's getting a bald spot right on top of his head. He says he's just gonna let his ear hair grow out, and then comb it over the top. Yuck! haha Definitely hope you get to feeling better and that your race is a success!

Drink some Gatorade & eat some bananas, usually an electrolyte imbalance will lead to cramps. Rest up and kick ass at the 5K, I know you'll do great :).

Problem is the doc would take one look at that thick head of hair and diagnose him fine... what's a guy to do? Good luck on the run. Will be rooting for you here!

Hope your leg cramps go away! Happy Wife, Happy Life! I love that saying, even though I'm not married. Hope my future husband (or wife, whatever, I am no longer picky at my age) adopts that mentality!

You're cracking me up, Megmonster. Can't be that bad. I'm pretty comfortable going to the ER if I'm bleeding, have a broken bone, or am projectile puking. However, beyond that, it's usually, "Everything looks pretty normal, but I would follow up with your doctor next week." How do you make that cash register sound, "Cha Ching, cha ching?" LOL! That's why they call it practicing. Yeah, thanks guys, I am going to increase my fluid intake and maybe eat of couple bananas; the leg is tender where I had the cramp; it was pretty intense.

Ever get the lab results from the "bug bite?"

No, Kathy, the nurses at the Dr.'s office told DW that if anything showed up in the culture to be concerned about, they would call me. No call. I didn't bother to make an appointment; waste of time. I will never know what it was, but it sure was potent. And whatever it was, it did not get my attention when it stung or bit me, so it was a strong silent little bugger, whatever it was.
